Silliguri - The city of Football after Kolkata in northern part of West Bengal which is nearer to Darjeeling. There are so many football coaching camps in Silliguri, from where talented footballers are growing up to fulfill their dream. But some dedicated football fans are working behind the scene without any financial interest as their passion is for - The beautiful game - Football. Jayabrata Ghosh is one of them. The young man engaging himself in football coaching. What he says to ? come on let's see :-

I am Jayabrata Ghosh was a student of Margaret (Sister Nivedita) English School and was a student of Don Bosco school but later I was admitted in Margaret (Sister Nivedita) English School school in class VI by my father in the year 1984-85. I was admitted as because my father saw my interest in football which I was not getting time while studying in Don Bosco.

My football carrier started from inter class tournament. From class league tournament I got the chance in the School team to play in the Subroto Cup. While playing Subroto Cup I was caught in the sight of Late. Panu Dutta Mazumder. He called me and gave me the opportunity to practice in the College ground where the best players of our Siliguri used to practice. In that year I played in the local 1st division club (Subhas Sporting Club).

I was the captain of that particular club for long 6 years out of 7 years. Then I was selected for SAI (Sports Authority of India) and stayed in the residential camp for 4 years. At that time Mr.Surujit Sengupta, X-international was posted in Siliguri State Bank who used to practice with us in the College ground. He encouraged me and asked me to play at Kolkata and I agreed. He arranged for my practice in the Rabindra Sarobar Ground.

My football carrier at Kolkata started. I registered myself with Salkia Friends, next year Jugsanti. Unfortunately after that I came back to Siliguri as I got service in B.S.F.Salugara. But I did not work there for many days as I did not liked the bindings. After that I got opportunity in a Tea Garden (Mohurgong &Gulma Tea Estate). After joining in service I found Mr.Sukhen Rakshit as my assistant manager who was an X footballer. He gave me lots of opportunity to play and encouraged me a lot.

I was willing to do B.P.Ed. but money did not gave me the support as my father was retired. After working in tea garden for 9 years I left that job also as difficulties raised in my football carrier. After leaving my job I went for NIS certificate course in the year 2004-05. After that I went for "AFC C certificate" course and then "AFC B certificate" courses. In between C & B I also did three courses of Premier Skills which was organised by British Council.

In the current year I got the opportunity to work as a Coach of Under -14 Bengal Team. Our state team played 8 matches out of which we won 5 and lost 3. But the best thing is that 12 players got chance for the selection camp of U-14 India.

From 2007 after completing my AFC C certificate course I started working as a coach of Siliguri Football Academy. I am still working there. I also work for various clubs .localDistrict,schools,etc. Though the academy started in 2004 but full activity started properly from 2007.

In 2008 our District team were the RunnerĖUp in the State Sub-Junior Championship where I was the coach and where 11 boys were from my Academy. Three boys got chance in IFA Haldia Academy (Sourodipto Roy,Hemant Toppo and Dipu Barman)

In 2009 our Sub-Junior District team became the Champion in the same tournament where I was the coach and 11 boys were from by Academy. 5 Players got selection in SAI. 3 players got selection to go to Bryan Munchen,Germany(Sanjeev Kerketta, Nishant Toppo and Dipu Barman). One player got the chance to play in the 2nd division I- league(Hemant Toppo). 5 players were selected for School National.

In 2010 most of the players were allowed to play for the local league as we cannot play by our own name. A new group of players were also selected. In 2011 we played in the inter coaching camp tournament which was organised by Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Siliguri Mahakuma Krira Parishad. We joined in the tournament for the first time and became the Runner-Up. The boys played very well but lost in the final as the players were not very matured.

In the same year another Inter coaching camp tournament (North Bengal Youth Football Festival) was held by the group called Ideas Sports Management Group jointly with Siliguri Mahakuma Krira Parishad. We became the Champion by defeating the same team with whom we lost in the previous tournament. In 2012 again 5 boys got selection for SAI.

Some of our players are playing in Kolkata .This year I planned to make a team and make them play for one club in Kolkata. There are many talented players who are trying very hard. The main difficulty is that the players donít have any residence at Kolkata where they can stay and play. That is why we are lacking otherwise talent is not less in my players.

I think a Residential Academy is required in Siliguri very much. There are lots of talent who get lost after playing for some years as they donít get proper food and to earn their living as most of the boys comes from very poor families. Most of the boys of my Academy are from the tea garden areas where they do not get any kinds of facilities related to food and logging.

Still I thank to the members of AIFF for bringing Siliguri in limelight of football by arranging continuous two big tournaments which will encourage the local boys to come to play football and also to see some good football matches. I am now waiting for my AFC A Certificate Course and to see a beautiful Football Academy at Siliguri.

Mr. Ganeshan, who officially closed the course, stressed on the importance of referee fitness and said, "Introduction to new technology and methods will be useful in our duties as fitness instructors.
