Kingfisher East Bengal will play their 3rd match in the AFC cup Group H against the Tampines Rovers Football Club of Singapore



WRITTEN BY JAYDIP DASGUPTA: Kingfisher East Bengal will play their 3rd match in the AFC cup Group H against the Tampines Rovers Football Club of Singapore. This will be their away match as they had won against the Salongor FC in thier opening encounter at Kolkata by a margin of a goal and drew their 2nd match at Yangyon against Xuan Thanh Sai Gon.

Tampines Rovers is one of the oldest football Cup of Singapore founded in the year 1945 at Singapore City are at present standing in the 2nd position in the S league(6 points from 2 matches).'Tampines 'is the largest residential area and commercial hub outside the city states of Singapore.

The residents of the area planned to set up a football Club and they finally named the club as Tampines Rovers Football Club.From 1950"s Tampines played in the Singapore Amature Football League and finally allowed to compete in the Division II of the National Football League. Tampines Rovers won all their league matches and promoted to play in the 1st division from 1975 onwards.

Tampines Rovers had a formidable performances in domestic and international arena as they won the Asean Cup championship in the year 2005.They were the winners of S league in the years 2004,2005,2011 and 2012.Tampines are nicked named as 'Stags 'who are the winner of the Singapore cup in the years 2002,2004,2006, and the Singapore Charity Sheild from 2011 onwards(they won in 2011,2012,2013).

Currently they are at the top of S League with 15 points from 5 matches.
They have 4 foreigners as under:
1) Sasa Dreven (Croatian) - Goal Keeper
2) Yamashita Kunihiro (Japan) - Defender
3) Sead Hadzibulic (Serbia) -Forward- Booked out for the match at Singapore.Will be available for the Kolkata match on 9.4.13
4) Martin Wagner (Argentina) - Midfielder

The team also includes Singapore National team player Khairul Amiri who scored agaist India in the 16th November,2012 Friendly Vs India. The 'Stags were the national champions in the years 1979,1980 and 1984, but were relegated in the year 1988 to the second division. After a turmoil the club was succeed in returning back to the 1st division once again in 1994.

The Tampines Rovers have their home ground at Clementi Stadium,which is controlled by the Sports Council of Singapore. This multipurpose stadium has a cpacity of 4000 spectatots.

The officials sponcers of Tampines is Hundai and the co sponcer is Harley Davidson.The current squad has four overseas footballers-Kunihiro Yamashita,Seiji Kaneko of Japan,Martin Wagner of Argentina and Sasa Dreven,Sead Hadzibulic of Siberia.
