PUNE FC PRESS RELEASE :: A new look Pune FC side will be out to prove their mettle against newly-promoted Mohammedan Sporting in their opening clash of the I-League 2013-14 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday. For the first time in five seasons, Pune FC open their I-League campaign away from home. The match also kicks off a three game away run as Pune FC take to the field for the first time under new Coach Mike Snoei.

This will be the first-ever meeting between both sides in the top-flight (I-League) and third overall after clashing in the I-League 2nd Division (26/4/2008 - Pune FC 2-3 Mohammedan Sporting) and in the Federation Cup (21/9/2011 – Pune FC 0-0 Mohammedan Sporting) earlier. Incidentally, Pune FC play Mohammedan exactly after two years at the same venue.

Mohammedan come into the game on a high after recently winning the Durand Cup in New Delhi. With four consecutive wins in the tournament, they are definitely a team in form. The Kolkata giants have made many changes to the team that won promotion last season. Their new foreign quartet of strikers Tolgay Ozbey and Josimar Martins, playmaker Penn Orji and defender Luciano Sobrosa bring in vast I-League experience. Similarly other new Indian signings add variety into the team.

Pune FC themselves are in a good form after having a great preseason. Playing a total of seven matches, Pune FC drew the first two before winning five consecutive games against various opponents. Despite going into the game with a relatively young squad, Pune FC will be looking to get all three points to match their opening day win against another promoted side ONGC FC last season.

New signings striker Raul Fabiani, winger James Meyer and defender Calum Angus are set to make their debuts as coach Snoei prepares to adopt a different style of play. Pune FC will be looking to set the record straight by registering their first win over Mohammedan after two previous unsuccessful attempts.

MFC PRESS RELEASE : Mumbai FC kick off their I-League 2013-14 campaign hosting Sporting Clube de Goa at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi in Pune on Saturday. The game will be important as both sides look to start their campaign on a positive note after mid-table finishes last season. Mumbai FC finished eighth with 32 points whereas Sporting finished sixth with 35 points.

A win for Mumbai FC will give them a perfect start to the season after their forgettable start to the 2012-13 I-League. It was only against Sporting that the Mumbai FC’s winless streak ended and Coach Khalid Jamil will be hoping for similar fortunes. The hosts will be cautious when they take on Sporting, who have already begun their season, and have been unrelenting in the Goa Pro League pumping in goals aplenty. Striker Boima Karpeh will be the man to mark having been prolific in the Goa Pro League.

This will be one of the key areas where the Mumbai FC defense led by skipper Haroon Amiri will need maximum focus. On the other hand, Mumbai FC go into the game on the back of a good preseason and will be boosted by the return of key players from International duty. The signing of Nigerian striker Orok Essien has boosted the team’s confidence, and he too will be looking to hit the ground running.

Coach Jamil will be hoping for new signings Climax Lawrence, Anwar Ali and Essien along with Amiri and to lead the young side on the pitch. A cautious Jamil explained, “Sporting finished the last season well under coach Oscar Bruzon and their form in the Goa Pro League this season has also been good".

However Jamil feels the hosts will also be a stronger unit, "We have been training for a few weeks now and the team has started to gel. We hope to give our best performance on Saturday". This will be the tenth time both teams face off against each other. Earlier, they have met eight times in the I-League and once in the Federation Cup.

The overall head-to-head between Mumbai FC and Sporting is balanced at three wins each and three draws from nine games. However Sporting have scored three wins in the I-League compared to two wins for the Mumbai FC - a record the hosts will be eager to set straight. The match kicks off at 4.00 pm on Saturday.
