29.8.2019 - AIFF PRESS RELEASE: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu became the 26th footballer to receive the prestigious Arjuna Award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today (August 29, 2019). Gurpreet received the Award from the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
He is the 4th goalkeeper to have received the Award, his predecessors including Subrata Paul (2016), Brahmanand Sankhwalkar (1997), and the late Peter Thangaraj (1967).The 26-year old who remains the sole Indian to debut in the UEFA Europa League (qualifier) dedicated his award to the past and future generations of football in the nation.

“I am very fortunate to win this award,” said Gurpreet. “I want to dedicate it to the seniors who made this possible for me for paving a way. This Award is for the future generations who are about to come in this path. I hope this will act as a catalyst to inspire them,” he added. Gurpreet who has been at National Team preparatory camp since August 20 in Goa, said that his teammates were very excited, and even demanded a party from him.

“The team wanted a party. That is how they wanted to celebrate this award and I got congratulated by every one of them,” the lanky custodian smiled. “I am thankful to have their support.”Gurpreet Singh Sandhu had been a part of the AIFF’s Centre of Excellence in his formative years before he played for East Bengal and later moved to Norway’s Stabaek FC, from where he switched colours to JSW Bengaluru FC in 2017.

16.08.2019 : 948 Football Lovers donated their valuable Blood Today at Khudiram Anuhilan Kendra - Kolkata in memory of those 16 Football Lovers who died in 1980 Derby Match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan at Eden Garden. Out of 948 doners 480 people are from Kolkata. 45 people from Burdwan, 44 people from Chittaranjan, 36 people from Siliguri, 68 people from Taki, 20 people from Kulti, 34 people from Purulia, 189 people from Ghatal, 32 people from Midnapur other district organisation under IFA. It was August 16, 1980. A grimmest tragedy in the soccer field shocked the sports lovers when it claimed the lives of as many as 16 football lovers at the Eden Gardens.Thereafter, thousands of well-meaning lovers of the game and the people in general took an oath and the same day every year is being jointly observed by The Indian Football Association (W.B.) and Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, West Bengal as Football Lovers’ Day, when thousands of people from all walks of life assemble to offer their gift of blood voluntarily.

KFC NEWS DESK: 12.8.19 East Bengal Club welcomes Abdul Majid Bishkar, the Iranian star on Monday, in a rainy evening at the club tent. Majid is one of the iconic star who played in India for a span of seven years in Kolkata giants East Bengal and Md Sporting respectively.
It was in the year 1980 the star footballers of East Bengal decided to leave the club and joined Md Sporting and Mohun Bagan. Except Manoranjan Bhattacharjee ,Md Habib and Sudhir Karmakar there were no star footballers in East Bengal squad. East Bengal officials signed two Iranian footballers from Aligarh Muslim University, Abdul Majid and Jamshed Nasisri to strengthen the team.

Majid created a history during his regime in East Bengal. The Iranian proved himself as one of the best foreign recruit in Indian football under the able guidance of P K Banerjee within a very short span.

East Bengal officials were successful in bringing back Majid after thirty two years in Kolkata on the occasion of Sports Day which is a part of the clubs centenary programme. Majid himself was astonished when he found hundred of East Bengal fanatics were at the Kolkata airport to receive him even at 2am in the night. He was rather thinking that one or two club officials may be at the airport to receive him.

While interacting with the media along with Jamshed Nasiri at the East Bengal club Majid answered to various questions asked by the journalist.

The final of the Independence Day Celebration Women's Football Tournament was played at Lammual, Aizawl on Saturday evening under floodlights with Vakiria FC winning 3-0 against a valiant NCC FC side. Much more experienced side Vakiria FC dominated the play early on - C Zairemmawii opened the scoring with a typical strikers goal by quickly converting a half chance leaving NCC FC custodian no chance to react.

Zairemmawii doubled Vakiria's goal by a brilliant freekick from outside the box. It was a much fitter side NCC who came out stronger in the second half, dominating the midfield and as they outran their opponents, but couldn't find a meaningful opening in front of goal.

However, it was Vakiria FC who scored against the run of play in the 66th minute with the help of a clever finishing by Indian international player Grace H Lalrampari, who flew home just in time to play the final match from Indian national team's European exposure trip.
