NorthEast United FC signs another jewel to their treasure.

North East United Signs signing of James Keene For ISL 12.09.2014: N.E UNITED PRESS RELEASE : North East United FC has brought on board yet another international player to add more European experience to the team, with the signing of James Keene, a 28 year old English Striker who is a product of the Portsmouth FC youth scheme in England.

He debuted, in the 2005 English Premier League as a Portsmouth Striker under Henry James 'Harry' Redknapp, who is one of the senior most managers in English professional football.

Also he is plugged as Elfsborg's top European scorer of all-time in Sweden; and has also been an integral member of the club's Champions League team. James had a very successful career in Sweden between 2007 to 2013 and was considered one of the brightest stars in the Swedish League.

After signing for NEUFC, Keene expressed,“I am very proud to be part of NorthEast United FC and it's great to know that the North East is the power house of Indian Football and that the people here are very educated about the game as well.”

The team is currently working tirelessly every day to be prepared for the league that will commence on October 12th, 2014. Towards this preparation, he added 'All of us are training very hard at the moment and the training is fantastic, especially working under an experienced Coach - Ricki Herbert. We are excited for the matches to start and hope that this new league will take Indian Football to the global stage."

With this new inclusion made to their team, The NorthEast United has only upped their ante, James Keene is a big asset to them with the wealth of experience that he brings having played extensively on the international front. He will only add value to the NEUFC attack to make their mark in the Hero ISL inaugural season.

North East United Signs Three Big Names-Garcia, Mtonga and Tzvoras For ISL Miguel Garcia is a Youth Academy Product of Sporting Clube De Portugal which is a PremierClub in Portugal, and made his debut appearance in the 2003-04 Season for the Senior Team.The Portuguese sensation has also played in The UEFA Cup and appeared in the Finals forSporting Lisbon in 2005 with a final appearance in 2011 for Sporting Club de Braga.The 31 year old Stopper Back has also played for Italian Football Club Reginna during the2007-2008 season. After his one year stint with the Italian club he inked a new deal with thePortuguese Club, Sporting Clube Olhanense in 2009 for six months.

He also featured forSporting Clube de Braga in the 2010-11 season and moved to Turkey to play for TurkishFootball Club, Orduspor for two seasons (2011-13). North East United FC appoint Ricki Herbert as Manager

Lajong sign African Cup winner Isaac Chansa 19.08.2014: N.E United Press Release : Former New Zealand National Team Coach at helm for inaugural Indian Super League. North East United Football Club today announced former long-time New Zealand Men's National Team Coach Ricki Herbert as their Manager for the forthcoming Indian Super League. Ricki managed the Kiwi 'All Whites' for 8 years from 2005-2013. He also represented the New Zealand National team at World Cup 1982.

Ricki Llyod Herbert, 53 led the New Zealand team to the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. New Zealand performed admirably at the World Cup and came out of it as the only unbeaten team at the World Cup. They battled much fancier opponents such as Italy, Paraguay & Slovakia in their group, eventually drawing the games. During his tenure with the 'All Whites', their FIFA ranking improved from 156 to 48.

Ricki also coached A-League side Wellington Phoenix from 2007-2013 taking them to A-League Preliminary Finals in 2010. During his long coaching career Ricki has also overseen the New Zealand Olympic team preparation and was Technical Director of the country's Technical development programme. He was appointed by FIFA to be a part of the 14 member Technical Development Studies group led by Gerard Houlier at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil. The group was responsible for tracking and studying technical strategies and trends employed by various teams at the World Cup.

The club also announced Lajong FC Head-Coach Thangboi Singto will be working with Ricki Herbert at NorthEast United FC in the capacity of Coach. John Abraham, co-owner NorthEast United FC while announcing the appointment said 'Ricki is the perfect fit for our plans at NorthEast United FC. His experience at the highest levels of competitive Football and his youth focussed philosophy matches the blue print of NorthEast United FC perfectly. With him on board we look forward to competing in the inaugural season of Indian Super League.'

08.08.2014: SLFC OFFICIAL MEDIA RELEASE : Zambian International & African Cup of Nations 2012 Winner, Isaac Chansa has been signed by Lajong FC and will also be plying his trade for NorthEast United Football Club in the prestigious Indian Super League, due to start on October 12, 2014.

The club has also confirmed, Cornell Glen will be joining the NorthEast United ranks. Both Cornell Glen & Isaac Chansa were cleared by ISL organising committee to be the designated International players for NorthEast United.

Chansa a key member of the 2012 African Cup of Nations winning Zambian side, last played for Zambian Premier League club side Zanaco FC last season before making his move to North East of India. He has also featured previously for clubs such as Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish Top Division and Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier Soccer League.

Chinese Super League Side Henan Jianye FC secured his services from Orlando Pirates in 2012 for a total deal value worth a little over Dollar 1 Million. He was also part of the Zambian side that took on Japan in the Pre-World Cup 2014 International Friendly in USA. Chansa whose natural position is in Centre Midfield was quoted saying "I am happy and look forward to this new challenge. I will do my best to contribute in the team's success in any way I can and repay the faith shown in me by the team management."

Meanwhile 2006 World Cupper and Trinidad & Tobago's 5th highest goal scorer ever; Cornell Glen, will also be playing for NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League. Cornell who scored 13 goals for Shillong Lajong FC in the 2013-14 I-League season, was the only international player from the I-League to have got a go ahead from the League Organising Committee to play in the ISL. With bags of experience including that of playing in the MLS teams Cornell will bring an edge to the NorthEast United forward line.

World Cup 2010 & Euro 2008 winning Spanish defender to play in the Indian Super League. NorthEast United Football Club has signed World Cup 2010 & European 2008 Championship Winner, Spanish Defender, Joan Capdevilaas their Marquee player for the inaugural season of Indian Super League.

Capdevila who marshalled the left back position for the La Roja, was a prominent member of the sides that won both the World Cup in 2010 and European Championship in 2008. He has played over 400 games with 36 goals in the Spanish La Liga for big Guns like Espanyol, Athletico Madrid, Deportivo, and Villarreal.

Capdevilla last season played for La Liga Club, Espanyol and expressed his delight on recently signing for NorthEast United FC, "At this stage, after winning everything to be won a new challenge was needed. After speaking to John Abraham about the way he is passionately looking to promote football in India and the project of NorthEast United FC, it excited me to take up this challenge.

India is a huge country and it should be a privilege for me to be a small part in popularising this global game here and working with the young talented footballers of North East India."

10.06.2014: Official Press Release : Football fans across the North East were ecstatic when Guwahati was selected as one of the eight franchise cities of the proposed Indian Super League (ISL). The ISL is a football League promoted by IMG, Reliance and Star India which is all set to kick off from mid September to November 2014.

The ISL received an overwhelming response as numerous corporate houses of the country and top sporting institutions as well as a galaxy of top Bollywood stars bid to own a team from the proposed 9 cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Goa, Kolkata and Guwahati. In April this year, the winning bids were announced and the consortium comprising of Bollywood actor John Abraham and Shillong Lajong FC were awarded the Guwahati Franchise. Guwahati had found its place in the list of 8 cities for the 1st edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) in place of Chennai.

The team was unveiled in an event held in the city today and named “North East United Football Club". Speaking at the function, John Abraham said "I am a firm believer in the footballing talent that exists in the North East and proud to be associated with owning a football Club from the region. Our objective is to harness the talent and combine the footballing potential of the region into one team that we hope shall become an engine and platform that will power Indian football forward in the future."

The event was also attended by a host of actors and personalities from the Assamese film industry who were present to lend their support and encourage the team besides officials of the Assam Football and Guwahati Sports Association and other dignitaries. Also present at the function were Bolywood Producer Ronnie Lahiri who is a designated advisor and mentor of the Franchise and Sanjiv Narain co - promoter of the Franchise.

Larsing Sawyan, Managing Director of Lajong said "A United Team of the North East based out of the region's largest city has the potential to compete at the highest level in the country and with North East United, we hope to continue to fulfil the sporting aspirations of the people of the region and assist in propelling football in the country to higher levels".

India is a country of 1.2 billion people where over 50% of the population is below 25 years of age. The aim of the Franchise is to take football to the next level in the North East in order improve the overall development of the sport in India and also provide new opportunities to talents across the region.

The league which will be organised by IMG-Reliance and Star India which has the support of the All India Football Federation, promises to bring international football stars who will be playing alongside the Indian Footballers and create a new era of football in the country.
