FIFA U-17 WOMEN WORLD CUP - INDIA 2022 LIVE SCORE

Following the narrow defeat by Spain in their opening match, it was already an all-or-nothing occasion for Colombia against China – which made it all the more important that they had Linda Caceido in their ranks.

The youngster is still just 17 but such is her quality and ability that she featured for her country at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica in August this year. In contrast to the game against Spain, where she played on the wing, today she operated more as a No10.

It was a tactical switch that paid rich dividends, as China struggled to get into the game and any chances they created never seriously threatened the Colombian goal. Caceido, on the other hand, showed them how it was done and scored twice to deservedly be named as player of the match.

15.09.2022 (Group C) : SPAIN 1-2 MEXICO (FT)
: SPA : Pujols 74'
MEX : M. Flores 47', Saldivar 85'

The result of the day’s second Group C game means fans can look forward to a thrilling finale in the section, as all four teams now have three points. It was a history-laden fixture between the two nations, who met in the final of the U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2018, when Spain won 2-1.

Mexico exacted a measure of revenge today to restore pride in a match that will hold special significance for Maribel Flores: after missing a penalty against China PR, she scored the opening goal against Spain. “I won’t be affected by a mistake,” she told FIFA+. “We’re the best in the world. We believe that and we’ll make everyone believe it too.”

FIFA U-17 WOMEN WORLD CUP - INDIA 2022 LIVE SCORE

Tanzania’s victory over France was the surprise of the day. Les Bleuettes were the superior team for much of the game and were on the front foot in the last half hour in particular, but they lacked desire and a will to win.

“In terms of mentality, our team refused to fight,” said a disappointed coach Cécile Locatelli after the final whistle. “I warned them that they would have to defend from the front because we knew that if we didn’t, Tanzania would find their rhythm. But we just didn’t do it. I think that’s how you learn when you are young. Tanzania played well, they showed fight and won the game.”

As a result not only the Tanzanian team but the country as a whole was celebrating the result: in the 17th minute Diana Mnally, who is still just 16, scored Tanzania’s first-ever goal at a FIFA competition. The icing on the cake was that the players were able to share the historic moment with their families, who were cheering them on from the stands for the entire game.

15.09.2022 (Group D) : JAPAN 4-0 CANADA (FT)
JAP : Kubota 9', Shiragaki 37', Tanikawa 52', Takaoka 90+2'

Japan may have won their first assignment 4-0 against Tanzania but coach Michihisa Kano’s side were even better in this game, primarily thanks to their incredible team work. As a result, Japan are the only nation at this U-17 Women’s World Cup still to have a perfect record, while their performances have underlined their ambitions of lifting the title for a second time, having previously done so in 2014.

This win over Canada, coupled with Tanzania’s own triumph, has taken Japan one step closer to that aim by confirming their place in the quarter-finals.

This was a match that belonged to Leilane, who pulled off some superb saves to keep USA at bay and earn her side a precious point. Both goals came in a first half in which a tearful Dudinha was stretchered off after falling to the ground, with Rebeca coming on in her place. The pattern of the second half followed the first, with USA dictating the play and Brazil being kept in the game by their keeper, who was named player of the match.

The Morocco fans turned out in force, drums and all, intent on drowning out the home supporters. Beaten 8-0 by USA on their tournament debut, the hosts began in confident fashion and had several chances to go ahead.

That honour went to Morocco however, as Doha El Madani stroked home from the penalty spot at the start of the second half to become the first player from her country to score at a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Yasmine Zouhir then pounced to double Morocco’s lead after a goalmouth scramble.

Djennah Cherif completed the scoring with a third for the north Africans in injury time.

FIFA U-17 WOMEN WORLD CUP - INDIA 2022 LIVE SCORE

No sooner had the players walked out on to the pitch in Goa than the rain came down. That did not stop Nigeria from probing away down the left in a dominant first-half display, and it was from that flank that Tumininu Adeshina sent in the cross that allowed Amina Bello to open the scoring with a glancing header.

Nigeria doubled their advantage when Miracle Usani sent in another cross from the left and New Zealand’s Manaia Elliott inadvertently flicked it past her keeper Aimee Feinberg-Danieli and into the net.

The Africans maintained their superiority after the restart. With 15 minutes remaining, they put together a move down the right that ended with Taiwo Afolabi firing home with her right foot from the edge of the box. Second-half substitute Edidiong Etim added a fourth in the closing seconds, stealing possession and striding forward to smash the ball into the top corner from distance.

“It all came down to our determination,” said Usani, reacting to her side’s long-range strikes. “We’ve trained hard and our coaches always tell us not to think about it and shoot whenever we get close to the box.”

Chile midfielder Tali Rovner’s father was in the stands directing the Roja fans as they cheered on their side. Unfazed, Germany took the lead through Jella Veit. A member of Frankfurt’s UEFA Women’s Champions League squad, she pounced when the Chile keeper spilled a free-kick into her path.

Alara Sehitler put the Germans 2-0 up shortly afterwards with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box, with Mara Alber then adding a third.

Marie Steiner made it 4-0 from the spot despite the best efforts of Chile keeper Catalina Alvarado. Substitute Loreen Bender added to the South American side’s pain a minute after coming on, before Laila Portella rounded off the scoring in stoppage time.

MEX : Guijarro 90+3'
CHN : Qiao Ruiqi 49' (pen.), Yu Xingyue 90'

In the Group C opener, Mexico and China PR met for the second time at this competition: the former won the first encounter 4-0 in 2014. They began this game eager for a repeat performance and sought to wrestle control of proceedings, only to be thwarted time and again by China’s early pressing. However, Mexico gradually grew into the game and began carving out chances thanks to the superb display of captain Alice Soto. They were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute following a VAR review for a handball by defender Jiaxin Huang, but Maribel Flores hit the bar from the resultant spot-kick.

It proved to be a turning point in the match as China began to assert their authority, even if they were unable to find the target before half-time. That all changed in the 49th minute when Ruiqi Qiao converted a penalty after Fatima Servin brought down Jiaxin Huang. Mexico pushed for an equaliser but failed to restore parity despite creating a number of opportunities. China once again showed them how it was done in the 90th minute when Xingyue Yu scored a decisive second goal following some poor positional play from Mexico, who did net a deserved consolation in stoppage time, even if it arrived too late to change the outcome.

12.09.2022 (Group C) : SPAIN 1-0 COLOMBIA ( FT)
SPA : Amezaga 85'

Spanish passion against South American spirit was the order of the day in the group’s other game, which Spain won 1-0. Both teams began the match with commitment and tempo, each creating chances to score. Neither managed to do so before the interval, but in the second half Paula Partido did put the ball in the net for reigning U-17 Women’s World Cup holders Spain, only for it to be chalked off following a VAR review for a foul in the build-up.

It remained a hard-fought encounter thereafter and appeared to be heading for a draw until the 85th minute, when Sara Ortega’s long ball from the right bypassed the Colombian rearguard and found unmarked substitute Jone Amezaga, who made no mistake with her finish.

The Colombian fans also suffered a shock at the start of the second half when the outstanding Linda Caceido, who also showcased her talents at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022™, began limping and remained in pain even after a lengthy period receiving treatment. The team can only hope that she will be fit in time for the game against China.

12.09.2022 (Group D) : CANADA 1-1 FRANCE ( FT)
CAN : Chukwu 67'
FRA : Calba 73'

The Group D opener pitted 2012 U-17 Women’s World Cup winners France against Canada, who have qualified for all seven tournament editions. The fixture did not disappoint, with the spectators witnessing a hard-fought and well-deserved 1-1 draw.

France were on top in the first half and created the better chances, primarily thanks to their wingers Fiona Liaigre and Shana Chossenotte, who kept Canada goalkeeper Coralie Lallier on her toes with their deliveries from wide. However, they were unable to apply a finishing touch, leaving the match goalless at the break.

There were plenty of openings in the second period, with Canada’s Amanda Allen seeing her effort disallowed for offside before team-mate Annabelle Chukwu put them ahead in the 67th from Anna Hauer’s through ball.

France’s response was swift and Lucie Calba, who was named as player of the match for her impressive display, headed in Chossenotte’s cross, leaving Lallier no chance.

12.09.2022 (Group D) : JAPAN 4-0 TANZANIA ( FT)
JAP : Shiragaki 33', Itamura 67', Tsujisawa 75', Tanikawa 81'

Japan’s U-17s, who have participated at every edition of this competition, overcame debutants Tanzania 4-0 in the second Group D game. Paul’s red card in the 20th minute for a foul on Kokoro Yoshioka was undoubtedly one of the decisive moments of the match and was a major setback for Tanzania, as Paul was their second-best goalscorer during qualification.

Japan broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute following neat link-up play down the left, culminating in Uno Shiragaki finishing past goalkeeper Zulfa Makau. In the second half, Mao Itamura doubled her team’s lead just three minutes after coming off the bench with a fine solo effort. An agile Japan side proved too hot for Tanzania to handle and they soon made it 3-0 when they won possession in their own half and burst forward, with the effervescent Itamura teeing up Ai Tsujisawa to score.

Nevertheless, 17-year-old Momoko Tanikawa was named player of the match following her sublime free-kick in the 81st minute, curling an unstoppable effort in from 20 metres out.

Despite the result, Makau also deserves to be singled out for praise. The Tanzania goalkeeper produced an outstanding display and prevented her team from losing by an even higher margin.

The India fans created quite an atmosphere at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. After enjoying the pre-match fireworks display, they roared their approval every time the home side approached the US penalty box.

It did not take long, however, for the Stars and Stripes players to puncture their enthusiasm. There were only nine minutes on the clock when Melina Rebimbas made the most of Riley Jackson’s good work down the right flank to put USA ahead. The Concacaf side doubled their advantage six minutes later when Charlotte Kohler scored from a corner.

Onyeka Gamero was rewarded for some energetic pressing when she dispossessed Purnima Kumari to make it 3-0. And though the home crowd kept the noise levels up, further goals from Rebimbas and Gisele Thompson gave the US a 5-0 half-time lead.

Ella Emri and Taylor Suarez made it seven shortly after the restart. Mia Bhuta, who has Indian family on her father’s side, then completed the scoring with a stunning strike from distance – much to the delight of her dad, who was looking on from the stands. Undaunted, the India fans supported their side right to the end, raising the roof every time the hosts ventured forward.

11.09.2022 (Group A) : MOROCCO 0-1 BRAZIL ( FT) BRZ : JHONSON 5'

FIFA U-17 WOMEN WORLD CUP - INDIA 2022 LIVE SCORE

Brazil’s leading scorer when they won the South American U-17 Women’s Championship earlier this year to qualify for India 2022, Jhonson wasted little time in showing her prowess in front of goal. Presented with a chance just five minutes in, after Brazil had won back possession in the Moroccan half, she took it with aplomb to give her side the lead.

The Brazilians stayed on the front foot for the rest of the match and had 18 attempts on goal, five of them on target. The scoreline remained the same, however, as A Seleção kept a clean sheet in their opening match of the tournament for the third time running. Another solitary goal was enough to give them three points against Nigeria and two years later they kicked off with a goalless draw against Japan. The result should not take the gloss off an important day for the Moroccans, who became the first north African side to play at the U-17 Women’s World Cup.

FIFA U-17 WOMEN WORLD CUP - INDIA 2022 LIVE SCORE

Tournament ever-presents, New Zealand achieved their best finish in the competition when placing third in 2018. In contrast, Chile had only one previous appearance to their name, in 2010, when they lost all three of their group matches.

Paying no attention to tournament history, the Chileans came straight out of the blocks at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, with Ambar Figueroa giving them the lead 12 minutes in and Tali Rovner making it 2-0 ten minutes later.

The Young Football Ferns struck back through Emily Clegg just after half-time, but when Anais Cifuentes fired home from outside the box on 64 minutes, the points – and a first U-17 Women’s World Cup win – were Chile’s. Though the rain came down in the closing stages, it did nothing to dampen the South Americans’ joy when the final whistle blew.

FIFA U-17 WOMEN WORLD CUP - INDIA 2022 LIVE SCORE

Nigeria made a strong start in the day’s second game and took a deserved lead 30 minutes in when Miracle Usani fired a low free-kick into the corner of Eve Boettcher’s goal. With lots of German flags waving in the stands, the European side did not lack support whenever they went forward and pulled level just four minutes into the second half, with Svea Stoldt getting on the end of a corner from the left.

The German comeback was completed on the hour mark, when player of the match Mara Alber struck to give them the perfect start to their campaign.
