Mumbai City FC (MCFC) reached the finals of the 131st IndianOil Durand Cup, overcoming local giants Mohammedan Sporting (MDSP) 1-0 in the first semi-final played here at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK). Bipin Singh got the all-important strike in the final minute of regulation time, courtesy a Lallianzuala Chhangte assist. This will be the Islanders first ever final in Asia’s oldest tournament in their very first appearance. It was an exciting match with the local side dominating for large parts, but the Islanders clinched the deal when it mattered.

Mohammedan Sporting (MDSP) finished on top of Group A in the 131st Indian Oil Durand Cup, courtesy a 1-1 draw with Bengaluru FC (BFC), at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) here in the city. Pritam Singh got an early lead for MDSP in the first half, which was neutralized by Siva Sakthi in added time of the second. Both teams had already qualified for the knockout stages and the result meant that MDSP would face the Kerala Blasters in their quarter finals while BFC will go up against Odisha FC in theirs.

Mohammedan Sporting (MDSP), previous year’s runner-up and the first Indian winners of Asia’s oldest football tournament, became the first team to make it through to the quarter-finals of the 131stIndianOil Durand Cup, defeating the Indian Air Force Football Team (IAFFT) by a brace of goals at Kolkata’s Kishore Bharati Krirangan in the first group game of Friday.
French defender Ousmane Cardinal Ndiaye got the first goal in the 33rdminute of the first-half, while substitute Rahul Paswan got the second in the 87th minute of the second, as MDSP completely outplayed the Air men on the day. MDSP as a result now have three wins from three games, with one final game against Bengaluru FC (BFC) remaining, but that result will not move them out of the top two in Group A.

Mohammedan Sporting (MDSP) notched up their second consecutive win of the 131st IndianOil Durand Cup, beating Indian Super League (ISL) side Jamshedpur FC (JFC) 3-0 in a Group A encounter at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan (KBK). The first ever Indian winners of the Cup, MDSP took the lead in the 38thminute of the first half through Faslu who scored his second of the tournament and then added two in three minutes of the second, through Abhishek Halder and Sk. Faiaz respectively to secure three points.

15.8.22: The last year finalist FC Goa and Mohammedan Sporting Club to face against each other in the opening match in Group A of the 131st edition of Durand Cup at Kolkata. Mohammedan Sporting is the only Indian football club who won the trophy in pre independence era. On the contray FC Goa were the defending champions in their maiden appreance.

The coaches of both the teams are optimistic for a good start in the tournament. Mohammedan Sporting had to face a defeat in the final inspite of being an impressive performance. As the coach of Mohammedan Sporting, Andrey Chernyshov said, “We all remember that we lost to FC Goa in the last final. Of course, this will give us additional motivation in this match. But we also understand that this is the opening match of the tournament and is an additional excitement. We have lot of new players that we want to see in serious games. Therefore, it is very important for us to start the tournament with a win.”
The footballers of FC Goa had a long pre season before the reach Kolkata for the tournament. Deggie Cardozo the coach of FC Goa said, “We’re excited to kick start our Durand Cup campaign on Tuesday. As we face Mohammedan SC, it will be repeat of last year’s final. They may have done their homework but so have we, and our focus is completely on ourselves and what we can do to get a good result. Starting the tournament on a positive note, with a good result is important and that is what we hope to do on Tuesday. That the match will be held in front of fans gives us some extra motivation.”
