Jamshedpur becomes Shield City with historic win over Mariners
Ritwik Das helped Jamshedpur FC and himself gallop into the history books with a second-half winner to down ATK Mohun Bagan by a 1-0 margin and bag the League Shield for the first time creating history, in the Hero Indian Super League at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Monday.

Jamshedpur needed to draw to finish top of the table and clinch the League Shield, and the Red Miners rode Ritwik's goal in the 56th minute to ensure they finish the season on a high, capping off a stellar campaign under Owen Coyle. They finished with 43 points from 20 games, winning 13 games. ATKMB ended their league engagements having 37 in their kitty from 20 matches.

MATCH-110 : 07.03.2022 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 0-1 JAMSHEDPUR FC : kolkatafootball.com

ATKMB needed to win by a 2-0 victory to leapfrog Jamshedpur and second-placed Hyderabad FC, but it was not to be as Ritwik continued his purple patch with a sumptuous strike after Greg Stewart did all the spadework.

With stakes so high, it was expected to be a cagey affair and so it was with both teams eager to suss eachother out. The Mariners enjoyed more of the ball in the initial exchanges, coming closest to breaking the deadlock when a wild attempt from Tiri went wide. The busiest person on the field was the referee as he reached to his pocket thrice, flashing yellow cards in the first half and all to Jamshedpur players.

After change of ends, Stewart started bossing proceedings with his mazy runs and incisive passing, the industry bearing fruit four minutes to the hour mark when the Scotsman evaded two ATKMB shirts to cut into his right and beat his marker. Stewart went for goal himself but the ball came off an ATKMB player and fell to Ritwik who shot first time as the ball went past Amrinder Singh and into the back of the net.

ATKMB tried hard to forge a comeback but Jamshedpur held firm and eventually bagged three points, becoming the first side in the Hero ISL history to make seven wins in a row.

MATCH-110 : 07.03.2022 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 0-1 JAMSHEDPUR FC : kolkatafootball.com

It was a new dawn for football in the steel city, boasting of one of India's biggest academies, Tata Football Academy which has produced a plethora of footballers over the years. Jamshedpur's renaissance under Coyle began last year when they finished a credible sixth, hinting at a playing style under the reputed English tactician and also a roadmap for the future. This year, Stewart was exceptional for Jamshedpur and so was Daniel Chima Chukwu whose move to the club in January proved to be a masterstroke.

It remains to be seen whether the newly-crowned League Shield winners go on to win the Hero ISL or not but it has already been an exceptional season for them.

MATCH-110 : 03.03.2022 : CHENNAIYIN FC 0-1 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

ATK Mohun Bagan rode their talisman Roy Krishna's first-half strike to sail into the semifinals for the second straight year, with a 1-0 victory against Chennaiyin FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Thursday.

Krishna netted his fifth goal of the season and first this calendar year in the 45th minute and that proved to be the difference in the end as the green and maroons side moved to second in the table with 37 points from 19 matches. They will take on Jamshedpur FC next on March 7 to potentially decide the team that will finish at the top of the table. Jamshedpur have two games in hand and are at the top with 37 points. They take on Odisha FC on Friday.

ATKMB bossed the game from the first minute, bombing the Chennaiyin defence with constant attacks, the latter happy to sit back and try to attack on the counter. Roy Krishna gave early warnings after a Kauko through ball sent him clear as the veteran Fiji striker, back in the starting XI after an injury layoff, found the post in his way.

MATCH-110 : 03.03.2022 : CHENNAIYIN FC 0-1 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

There were no clear-cut chances after that early opportunity but the Mariners looked the likelier to score before Chennaiyin started growing into the game and almost keeping ATKMB at bay despite all their adventures in the final third. But just before halftime, Kauko provided a similar pass for Krishna who, unlike at the start of the game, slammed home past a diving Samik Mitra in Chennaiyin goal.

Chennaiyin started the second half on the front foot and almost got their reward three minutes into the hour-mark when a Reagan Singh effort deflected off an ATKMB shirt and came off the post. It was an open half but ATKMB defended well to see off the tie and grab important three points although one would have been enough to seal their semi berth. Chennaiyin, already out of the playoffs race after a forgettable season, finished their engagements with 20 points from the same number of losses.

MATCH-106 : 27.02.2022 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 2-0 BENGALURU FC : kolkatafootball.com

ATK Mohun Bagan took a major step towards ensuring a semi-final spot with a 2-0 win against Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda.

The defeat ended all hopes for the Blues of making it into the top-four. As for the Mariners, they remaines third, level on points with second-placed Jamshedpur FC.

Liston Colaco (45+1’) scored his eighth goal of the season from a sensational free-kick to give his team the lead. Manvir Singh (85) added a second late in the game to put the result beyond doubt.

An early chance saw Liston Colaco testing Lara Sharma from a direct free-kick, but the goalkeeper was steadfast in collecting the ball. On the other end, Cleiton Silva threatened to score but managed to send his volley above the crossbar. At the half-hour mark, Sunil Chhetri was left unmarked in the box but his header went off-target, much to his disappointment.

MATCH-106 : 27.02.2022 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 2-0 BENGALURU FC : kolkatafootball.com

The Mariners suffered a setback in the first half as Hugo Boumous was substituted at the stroke of the 40th minute, possibly due to an injury. Just when it looked like both teams will go into the halftime break without scoring a goal, the deadlock was broken with a moment of individual brilliance. Liston Colaco’s powerful direct free-kick beat Sharma in the goal to give the lead to ATKMB right before the halftime whistle.

Nine minutes after the restart, Manvir Singh found acres of space behind BFC’s backline, but poor decision-making on his part saw his shot getting blocked. Moments later, Colaco was serviced by Kauko but saw his shot hit the left post. The BFC head coach made a truckload of changes in order to save the season and turn the game around near the hour mark.

The Blues dominated more of the possession in the final stages of the match but struggled to create clear scoring chances. To end any hopes of a comeback, Manvir scored against the run of play in the 85th minute with a precise finish in the bottom left corner. There was no fight left in the BFC camp after the strike and the Mariners secured the win with ease.

ATK Mohun Bagan will lock horns with Chennaiyin FC in their next outing at the PJN Stadium on Thursday whereas Bengaluru FC will play SC East Bengal in their last league game of the season at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Saturday.

Ten-man ATK Mohun Bagan squandered a chance to close the gap at the top, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Odisha FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the Tilak Maidan Stadium here on Thursday.

It was an unhappy throwback Thursday of sorts for the Mariners who were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Odisha in the first leg as well. Redeem Tlang (5th) opened the scoring for Odisha, who are already out of contention for a semifinal spot, but Joni Kauko (8th P) made it 1-1 from the spot. The second half saw no goals from either side with Liridon Krasniqi finding the woodwork and Roy Krishna given the marching orders picking up two yellow cards.

The result means ATKMB remained in third place with 31 points, level with second-placed Jamshedpur FC who take on NorthEast United FC on Friday, from 17 matches. Odisha too remained in seventh spot with 23 points from 18 games. A win for the green and maroons would have taken them to second spot, and cut the gap with league leaders Hyderabad FC to two points with a game in hand.

The contest was off to a frantic start, Odisha taking the lead inside the first five minutes. Jerry Mawihmingthanga bombed down the right flank to send in a low cross for Tlang who got the better of Pritam Kotal to score.

Odisha's joy was short-lived as ATK Mohun Bagan equalised after Sahil Panwar clipped Hugo Boumous inside the area for the referee to point towards the spot. Joni Kauko slammed home from the spot. Odisha could have gone 2-1 up, but Javi Hernandez saw his meek penalty saved by Amrinder after Aridai Suarez was tripped inside the box by Tiri.

MATCH-102 : 24.02.2022 : ODISHA FC 1-1 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

Javi tried to atone for his mistake with a defence-splitting long ball to find Aridai but Amrinder came out of his line in time and made himself big for the Spaniard to not shoot and pass to Tlang instead, who could not do much. Javi had to come off with a slight knock and was replaced by Daniel Lalhlimpuia as the game neared the halfway mark.

Early on in the second period, ATKMB head coach Juan Ferrando replaced Carl McHugh with fit-again Roy Krishna looking to break the deadlock. Both teams struggled to carve out clear-cut chances as the clock ticked on.In the final ten minutes, substitute Krasniqi saw his effort come off the crossbar from a Aridai pull-back while Krishna was shown a red after picking up his second yellow card in stoppage time.

ATK Mohun Bagan moved to the top of the table and Kerala Blasters FC entered the top-four after the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Saturday.

Adrian Luna (7', 64') opened the scoring for Kerala before David Williams (8') drew level inside one minute. In the second half, Luna scored his second and handed Kerala the lead back but in stoppage time Joni Kauko (90+7') made it 2-2 to break Kerala hearts.

The result means Kerala now have 27 points from 16 games and sit in fourth place while ATK Mohun Bagan moved to the top of the table for the time being with 30 points from 16 outings. The game was off to a frantic start as both teams scored in the space of one minute. Kerala took the lead inside the first eight minutes, Luna curling in a sumptous free kick up and over the wall and into the left corner leaving Amrinder Singh stranded in ATKMB goal.

One minute later, ATKMB equalised. Pritam Kotal sent in a low cross first time for Williams to thump home on the run. Both teams settled down a bit after the high-tempo start before Liston Colaco's effort was palmed away by Prabhsukhan Gill and Lalthathanga Khawlhring's rasping left-footer was tipped onto the crossbar by Amrinder for a corner.

Alvaro Vazquez also saw his first-time attempt sail over the woodwork after Jorge Diaz did well to set up his teammate. At halftime, both teams were level at 1-1.

At the start of the second half, ATKMB head coach Juan Ferrando replaced goalscorer Williams with Hugo Boumous and the Frenchman did have an impact, controlling play in the middle of the park and drawing fouls in important areas of the pitch. But it was Kerala who took the lead for the second time in the match.

Luna scored a peach of a goal after Khawlhring got the ball on the edge of the box and chipped it to Luna who chested it down, cut in and slammed the ball into the top corner. Both teams traded punches till the last minute with substitute Kiyan Nasiri getting a golden opportunity to draw level but for a brilliant block. From the resultant corner, Sandesh Jhingan's header was tipped over the bar.

MATCH-92 : 15.02.2022 : FC GOA 0-2 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

Manvir Singh (3rd, 46th) scored a brace on either side of halftime to ensure the Mariners stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games under Juan Ferrando who did a double over his former side after switching allegiances mid-season. FC Goa's slim chances of making the semis all but went up in smoke as they remained on 18 points from 17 outings.

The Mariners were at it from the word go, taking the lead as early as the third minute. Prabir Das' cross was cleared for a corner by Dylan Fox. Liston Colaco whipped in a delightful flag kick for Manvir to flick the ball home with his back behind the goal. Dheeraj Moirangthem had little time to react as the Gaurs were stung early.

Goa upped the ante as the half went on and started asking a lot of questions of the ATKMB backline which had Sandesh Jhingan for the first time from the start. Jorge Ortiz had a huge opportunity to kickstart Goa's onslaught as he tried to find his teammate selflessly from a good angle only for Tiri to stick out a left boot and clear away the danger.

Liston was once again brilliant, making those dazzling runs and linking up well with Joni Kauko and Manvir. Anwar Ali found the crossbar soon after the cooling break when his rasping effort from long range came off the woodwork.

After the break, ATKMB doubled their advantage to pour cold water on Goa's hard work and build-up play. One minute into the second half, Manvir scored his and the team's second of the night as he pounced on a Lenny Rodrigues ball after Rodrigues latched on to a loose ball from Princeton Rebello. Manvir controlled the ball, dribbled past Dheeraj and guided the ball inside the goal.

Manvir almost got his hattrick four minutes later, getting on the end of a Liston ball but could not beat Dheeraj who did well to get his body on the line. ATKMB could have had more goals as Kauko and Manvir also spurned gilt-edged chances. Colaco hit the underside of the crossbar after he whipped in a cross from the left flank. Dheeraj finally scrambled to clear the danger. ATKMB held fort till the end to ensure all three points and maintain their upturn in form.

ATK Mohun Bagan rode on Liston Colaco's brilliant show to climb to the second spot after they beat wooden spooners NorthEast United FC 3-1 in the Hero Indian Super League at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Saturday.

MATCH-89 : 12.02.2022 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 3-1 NORTH EAST UNITED : kolkatafootball.com

Suhair Vadakkepeedika (17th) gave NEUFC the lead early on before Joni Kauko (22nd) drew level only for Liston (45th) to make it 2-1 just before halftime. Liston was all over NEUFC in the second half as he fed Manvir Singh (52nd) for the team's third goal before making way for Kiyan Nassiri in the 66th minute to cap off another brilliant night.

The result means ATKMB are now on 26 points from 14 games, two adrift of leaders Hyderabad FC who have played two matches more. NEUFC remained rock-bottom with 10 points from 17 games. ATKMB extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches.

ATKMB missed the services of key players Hugo Boumous and Carl McHugh as both picked up injuries in the last game. As expected, the Mariners started on the front foot with Liston Colaco's early corner posing little threat and Manvir Singh's effort saved by Subhasish Roy Choudhury.

Against the run of play, NEUFC took the lead. Marcelinho got a loose ball in the middle of the park and ran at the ATKMB defence to then find Suhair who rifled home from the edge of the box to beat Amrinder Singh in goal. ATKMB got back in the game soon after cutting short NEUFC's joy as Kauko fired home from outside the area after being set up by Colaco with no NorthEast United shirt closing the Finland international down.

MATCH-89 : 12.02.2022 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 3-1 NORTH EAST UNITED : kolkatafootball.com

Suhair tried to double his lead but shot over before Pritam Kotal drilled a free header wide from a corner. Just before halftime, the Mariners took the lead riding a Colaco strike to make it his seventh goal of the season. Kauko turned provider this time, laying the ball up for Colaco after an incisive run for the latter to slam the ball into the bottom right corner.

ATKMB moved up a gear in the second period, Manvir finding the back of the net as early as the 52nd minute after the exceptional Colaco snatched possession to send Manvir in the clear as the latter cut back to beat his marker and slot home past Subhashish.

Head coach Juan Ferrando also replaced Prabir Das with Sandesh Jhingan at halftime, the star defender playing for the first time this season since returning from Croatian club HNK Šibenik.

NEUFC created a host of chances after falling behind with Imran Khan, Hernan Santana and Marco Sahanek coming close to scoring. In the end, the green and maroon shirts held on to their lead and made it two wins in two games to exert their authority.

ATK Mohun Bagan extended their unbeaten run to nine games and broke into the top-four once again, with a 2-1 win over league leaders Hyderabad FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Tuesday.

After a barren first half, Liston Colaco opened the scoring for ATKMB in the 56th minute with Manvir Singh (59th) doubling their advantage in the next three minutes. Joel Chianese (67th) pulled one back for Hyderabad but could not muster another goal as they succumbed to their third loss of the season, still remaining top of the table with 26 points from 15 games. ATK Mohun Bagan moved to the fourth position having 23 in their kitty from 13 games.

Both teams started slowly but upped the ante as the game progressed. ATKMB looked the more promising side with Hugo Boumous creating a lot of chances. The Frenchman looked in the mood and combined well with Liston Colaco and David Williams as the Mariners looked to prise open Hyderabad's defence.

Boumous forced Laxmikant Kattimani into a good save while at the other end Amrinder Singh kept the Bartholomew Ogbeche at bay. Hyderabad were on the backfoot in the face of constant ATKMB probing. Against the run of play, Nikhil Poojary shot just over from a Joel Chianese low cross.

MATCH-85: 08.02.2022 : HYDERABAD FC 1-2 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

The Mariners suffered a double setback when the excellent Boumous and ever-dependable Carl McHugh picked up injuries and had to be replaced by Joni Kauko and young Kiyan Giri respectively. Close to halftime, Colaco and Chianese had attempts straight at the keeper. The second half started on a frantic note, Rohit Danu finding the crossbar in his way after he fired a poor ATKMB clearance from a Hyderabad free-kick.

Soon after, ATKMB took the lead. Williams was on his bike off a counter-attack, finding Colaco who darted down the channel, cut back and curled the ball at the far post leaving Kattimani with no chance. It was Colaco's sixth goal of the campaign as he found the net against his former side with aplomb.

MATCH-85: 08.02.2022 : HYDERABAD FC 1-2 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

Three minutes later, Manvir doubled the team's tally. This time Joni Kauko fed Manvir with a beautiful ball for the latter to beat an onrushing Kattimani and slot the ball into the back of the net with ease. Stung by a double blow in quick succession, Hyderabad went on the offensive and got their reward when a powerful Joao Victor free-kick was punched only as far as Chianese by Amrinder, the Australian then guiding the ball inside the goal.

Hyderabad coach Manolo Marquez brought in Javier Siviero in place of Victor with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock in search of the equaliser. Danu saw his shot saved by Amrinder moments after as the yellow army pulled no punches.

Colaco then missed a sitter with an opening goal in front of him after he and Nassiri exchanged passes inside the goalmouth. Danu also missed a good chance to score from Akash Mishra's cross before Colaco fluffed his lines from close again, Nassiri crossing the ball to him.

Heavyweights Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan displayed their full repertoire but were left high and dry in the end with a 1-1 draw in the Hero Indian Super League at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda here on Thursday.

David Williams opened the scoring for ATKMB in the ninth minute but an own goal from Pritam Kotal in the 24th minute restored parity for Mumbai. Both teams had their fair share of chances in each half but could not produce a winner. The result means ATKMB could not break into the top-four, remaining fifth with 20 points from 12 games.

MATCH-80: 03.02.2022 : MUMBAI CITY FC 1-1 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

Mumbai's winless run stretched to seven games as the reigning champions remained sixth in the table with 19 points from 13 outings.

ATKMB looked in control from the off and it did not take them long to nose ahead. The brilliant Liston Colaco was hacked down on the left channel but despite green and maroon shirts' loud appeal, the referee did not give a free-kick. Mourtada Fall then passed the ball to Ahmed Jahouh who dilly-dallied with Hugo Boumous pressing him hard. Williams latched on to the loose ball, skipped past the keeper and put it past him.

Colaco proved to be a menace for the Mumbai City FC defence as he made constant forays and looked threatening every time he bombed forward. ATKMB kept knocking on the door as Colaco found the wall thrice to underline his dominance.

MATCH-80: 03.02.2022 : MUMBAI CITY FC 1-1 ATK MOHUN BAGAN : kolkatafootball.com

Mumbai tried hard to wrestle back the advantage and saw the ball for a brief period in which Cassio Gabriel's attempt was thwarted by Tiri but Kotal failed to keep out a Bipin Singh cross, deflecting the ball into his own net.

After the cooling break, Williams had a chance to double his tally but his sharp header from a Liston Colaco free-kick that fell to him after hitting the wall came off the woodwork.

Mohamad Nawaz then had a moment to forget when he charged out of his area in an attempt to head the ball clear but could only manage to send it as far as Boumous but the Frenchman was closed down by blue shirts.

In the second half, Mumbai took off Diego Mauricio who had a forgettable debut for the Islanders for Igor Angulo. Soon after, Boumous shot wide after Manvir Singh sent in a low cross from the right and Williams sold a cute dummy. At the other side, Angulo headed wide from Jahouh's cross.

At the hour mark, Mumbai's new signing Lallianzuala Chhangte came in for Vikram Pratap Singh and was in the thick of things almost immediately as he flicked on a ball from Gabriel into the path of Angulo but his header was saved well by Amrinder Singh.

Kiyan Nassiri, who scored a breathtaking hattrick coming off the bench against SC East Bengal in the Kolkata Derby the other day, replaced Asutosh Mehta in the 85th minute as both sides looked for the winner.

Marcelo again had a chance but he was denied by Deepak at the age of the 18 yards.

FIRST 30 MINUTES: It was a evenly poised match till the 30 minutes of the first session. ATK Mohun Bagan had some good moves down the left channel but unable to create any impact in SC east Bengal central defense.

The easiest chance of the match came in SC East Bengal's way when the Brazilian striker Marcelo shoots wide from a close range with only Amrinder to beat. Marcelo received the ball deep inside the ATKMB half after Tiri failed the clear the ball. Marcelo and Perisovic looks quite positive and may be a concern in ATK Mohun Bagan defense.

We have to stop their runs and make sure we don’t give them much space to manoeuvre. ATKMB is fighting for a top-4 spot so I think the pressure will be on them too, but in derbies like this, both the teams feel the heat as the matches are always 50-50.”

Both goalkeepers, Amrinder and Arshdeep Singh emerged unbelievably scot-free as ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha played anything but a timid 0-0 draw in a 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) game at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda, on Sunday.

Maintaining their positions on the league table - 6th and 7th respectively, Odisha now have 17 points while the Mariners have 16, having played two games less. Interestingly, ATK Mohun Bagan face arch-rivals SC East Bengal in the Kolkata derby on January 29.

The 'home' team never looked like they were out of action for a while, being on the front foot from the word go. Roy Krishna showed early intentions with a drive from close but the angle was too acute as Arshdeep Singh saved it without any fuss. Liston Colaco let fly a long ranger soon after as ATKMB bossed the game. Victor Mongil then had to put his body on the line to keep a David Williams piledriver at bay as the ball went out for a corner. It was a stunning block from Mongil as Odisha lived to fight another day.

Colaco put his laces through the ball from distance but it went just over as the Mariners kept coming at Odisha. Krishna was dealt with again by Mongil as he cut the Fijian's angle. Colaco missed from close just before the half-hour mark and again forced Arshdeep into a brilliant save later. The halftime whistle brought an end to an exhibition of attacks from ATKMB as the Odisha defence breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Hector Rodas never emerged back from the tunnel as Nikhil Prabhu replaced him for the second half. Ashutosh Mehta had almost turned villain after giving away a cheap freekick right away after the change of ends. Isaac Vanmalsawma's attempt was parried off by an alert Amrinder Singh.

MATCH-53 :08.01.22/ 23.01.22 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 0-0 ODISHA FC : kolkatafootball.com

Jerry Mawihmingthanga picked Odisha up, who looked the better side. His combination with Javi Hernandez kept Bagan on their toes but they were profligate. Prabir Das was brought in for Roy Krishna at the hour mark. Javi Hernandez carved out a couple of chances against his former side on either side of the cooling break. First, he hit the side netting which followed a sketchy clearance from a corner. Then, he did find the back of the net, but it was ruled offside.

Odisha tested Bagan's resolve in the dying embers of the game with a barrage of attempts but Amrinder Singh stood his ground, maintaining a clean sheet before the all-important derby next weekend.

David Williams scored the fastest goal in the Hero Indian Super League's history but Javier Siverio's late strike ensured Hyderabad FC moved to the top of the table riding a 2-2 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan in a rip-roaring encounter at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Wednesday.

Williams, playing ahead of Roy Krishna who started on the bench, took just 12 seconds to score before Bartholomew Ogbeche continued his goalscoring spree with an equaliser in the 18th minute. An own goal from Asish Rai (64th) almost poured cold water on Hyderabad's hopes of going top of the tree before substitute Siverio flicked a loopy ball inside the box into the goal.

Hyderabad edged past Mumbai City FC on goal difference. Both teams have 16 points from nine games. ATK Mohun Bagan moved to the third spot with 15 points from nine outings.

ATKMB raced a 1-0 lead inside the first minute, Williams racking up his record goal with a powerful strike from outside the box that went in kissing Hyderabad keeper Laxmikant Kattimani's gloves after Hugo Boumous set him up. The experienced Kattimani could have done better but at the other end, Amrinder Singh committed an even worse blunder in the 18th minute when he failed to hold on to a simple catch and the ball fell to Ogbeche.

The Nigerian in-form striker made no mistake, slamming the ball into an open net to net his ninth goal of the campaign. Amrinder was at fault once again as he passed the ball to Ogbeche where he should be cleared but the Hyderabad marksman could not make the most of it.

MATCH-50 : 05.01.22 :ATK MOHUN BAGAN 2-2 HYDERABAD FC : kolkatafootball.com

ATKMB suffered a setback when Carl McHugh had to be replaced just on the cusp of halftime after the Irish midfielder suffered a concussion and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance. Before halftime, Boumous picked up his fourth yellow card meaning he will miss the next game.

The second half saw Hyderabad put up a solid defensive display until Williams dribbled past Akash Mishra and crossed for Joni Kauko who nodded in expertly at the far post off a slight deflection from Asish Rai. The goal was adjudged as an own goal by Rai.

Having taken the lead for the second time in the game, the Mariners kept pushing for that insurance goal as Liston Colaco came close to scoring from a crisp Williams reverse pass. Juan Ferrando added teeth upfront with the introduction of Roy Krishna in the 72nd minute in place of Williams who capped off a superb display.

A Liston Colaco thunderbolt stole the show on a night Roy Krishna also found the target to make Juan Ferrando's return to familiar territory a sweet one as ATK Mohun Bagan beat FC Goa 2-1 in the Hero Indian Super League at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Wednesday.

MATCH-44 : 29.12.21 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 2-1 FC GOA (FT): kolkatafootball.com

Ferrando returned to take on his former side FC Goa as ATKMB head coach and Colaco (23rd) gifted him with a stunning strike in the first half. It was his fifth goal of the season, the highest by any Indian this term. Krishna (56th) made it 2-0 early on in the second half before Jorge Ortiz fortuitously pulled one back in the 81st minute but it was not enough in the end.

The result means ATKMB continued their resurgence under Ferrando, moving to third in the points table with 14 points from eight matches. FC Goa, meanwhile, remained eighth having the same number of points from eight games.

The impressive Devendra Murgaonkar warmed Amrinder Singh's gloves with an early attempt after nutmegging his marker and getting the better of him to shoot on goal. Amrinder saw the ball all the way and had it covered. ATKMB, though, were enjoying the lion's share of possession and got their reward in the 23rd minute albeit a moment of individual brilliance.

The sparkling Colaco, causing all sorts of trouble to Goa for some time, got on the ball on the left inside channel near the halfway mark. The 23-year old took a couple of steps forward to then unleash a rocket of a hit that swerved past the keeper and into the back of the net. Ferrando had his hands on his head in disbelief, his mouth wide open as the green and maroons went ahead riding that piece of magic.

At the half-hour mark, Jorge Ortiz forced Amrinder into a good save from a free-kick but the half had already gone to Liston for his wonderful strike, and deservingly ATKMB went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

MATCH-44 : 29.12.21 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 2-1 FC GOA (FT): kolkatafootball.com

The Mariners doubled their advantage soon after the restart, Krishna firing home first time a Hugo Boumous lob from the edge of the box. Goa never really got a grip of the game after falling behind by two goals before a Amrinder gaffe helped them get back in the game.

Ortiz's weak left-footer was inexplicably spilled by Amrinder as the ball went into the net. Goa threw in the towel by ATKMB held firm and bagged three points.

MATCH 25: 11.12.21 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 1-1 CHENNAIYIN FC : kolkatafootball.com

ATK Mohun Bagan were left searching to break their recent poor form as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC in the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Saturday.

Liston Colaco's 18th-minute strike was cancelled by Vladimir Koman (45') right before halftime. Chennaiyin are yet to face defeat as they go third on the table with 8 points. The Mariners continue to be outside the top four with 7 points.

After creating a few chances in the opening moments, ATK Mohun Bagan finally got the breakthrough in the 18th minute. Liston Colaco banged home albeit after the ball kissed the bar as Roy Krishna played a brilliant through ball to open the scoring. Earlier in the 16th minute, Ashutosh Mehta showed excellent skill and tried to create a chance from the right flank. CFC defenders intercepted the attack before he could hand the ball over to Manvir Singh.

MATCH 25: 11.12.21 : ATK MOHUN BAGAN 1-1 CHENNAIYIN FC : kolkatafootball.com

ATKMB's Tiri got a yellow card in the 22nd minute. Tiri was booked by the referee for a harsh tackle on Edwin Vanspaul. Similarly, in the 25th minute, Reagan Singh of Chennaiyin was cautioned for a mistimed tackle on Roy. Chennaiyin FC grew into the game with captain Anirudh Thapa and Lallianzuala Chhangte at the center of the attacks around the half-hour mark but they could not do any damage to ATKMB.

In the 41st minute, CFC got a corner which could have been a goal but ATKMB goalkeeper Amrinder Singh was on point. However, in the 45th minute, Vladimir Koman gave Amrinder no chance and equalised. Polish striker Lukasz assisted Koman from a throw-in which caught the Bagan defence off-guard.

Post the break, Hugo Boumous and Roy showed glimpses of their link-up play but Chennaiyin remained resolute. It was Edwin from Chennaiyin who could have handed his team but was unlucky in his attempt. Bagan brought in David Williams surprisingly in the dying embers of the game but the Australian failed to create an impact as both sides split points.

ATK MOHUN BAGAN TO FACE KERALA BLASTERS IN THE OPENING MATCH OF 8TH EDITION OF ISL
17.11.21: ATK Mohun Bagan are all set to clash against Kerala Blasters FC in the inargual match of the 8th edition of Indian Super League. The last years runners up ATK Mohun Bagan are reckoned as one of the toughest team out of the eleven participating teams in the competetion.

The footballers of ATK Mohun Bagan are concentrating mainly on the physical fitness and different formation of attack under Spanish coach, Antonio Habas since last few weeks at the Benaulim’s ground in Goa. The Spanish coach is preparing plan C with plans A and B and shall soon build a new strategy based on the readings of the opponent team.

Though Antonio Habas are yet to finalise the first eleven, but the team is being prepared to play with 3-5-2, 4-4-2, 3-5-1-1. Habas is preparing plan C with plans A and B and shall soon build a new strategy based on the readings of the opponent team. Antonio Habas believes in a team game and he is fully aware of the strength of his footballers.

The Mariners are charged up for a good start by defeating Kerala Blasters and start the tournament with a win.

While discussing regarding the strength of Kerala Blasters, the Spanish coach Antonio Habas said, "We absolutely respect the opponent in this case and last season, the season before that, and the season before that, we had to play the fixtures against Kerala. We don't have a lot of information about their quality because the deck he has, they have a new coach, new players but we have to analyse it to the individual profile of the players he has. But at all times, my morals in football are more important i.e. 85%, 80% for my team to perform its job and the rest 20% is my respect for the opponent."

Antonio Habas believes in team game. He said, "The key factor I think is that we have to build a team with an idea to grow as a group. There is the quality, the energy for winning. Obviously, we have to show our quality on the pitch too and it also depends on the players you have. Every season you have to adapt one proportion of football, sometimes more offensive, sometimes more defensive or mix, because you have to have the cold heart as a coach to analyse the player you have and after that you take a decision about what their behaviour is."
