An important goal by Sunil Chetri at the 78th minute of the match helped Bengaluru FC to register an important win against Mumbai City FC in the first semifinal of the current edition of Indian Super League at an away encounter at the Mumbai Football Arena.
Mumbai City FC displayed an attacking football in the first session of the match, created a number of chances to score. But, credit must be given to Sandesh Jhingan and Prabir Das who lead Bengaluru FC central defense and denied Greg Stewart, Joerge Diaz and Bipin Singh on a number of occasion to score.
Prabir Das, who displayed an impressive performance in central defense as well as in the attacking force was rightly adjudged as the Man of the Match.
Bengaluru FC had a tactical change in the second session as they started to hold the ball in the midfield leading by Zavi Hernandez and Suresh Wanjam and started to create pressure in the Mumbai City FC's central defense. It was really a competitive second session as both the teams had a number of positive chances to score.
Finally, Bengaluru FC scored at the 78th minute when Sunil Chetri's header of a corner from Roshan Singh from the left finds the target with Mumbai City FC goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa at the near post.
Mumbai City FC still have a chance to enter the final when they will face against Bengaluru FC at the Kanteveera stadium on the 12th of March.

SECOND HALF: East Bengal FC sealed an important win against Mumbai City FC, the winners of Hero ISL Winners Shield 2022-23, at an away encounter at Mumbai Football Arena. The all important goal of the match was scored Naorem Mahesh Singh at the 52nd of the match.
It was the combination between Cleiton Silva and Naorem Mahesh which works finally. East Bengal could have increased the lead but wasted easy opportunities in a number of occasions. It was V.P.Suhair who was the culpit for not converting the easy chances at least thrice during the second session with Phurba Lachenpa, the goalkeeper of Mumbai City was at his mercy.
Mumbai City on the contray created some positive chances later in the second session but the defense of East Bengal and especially goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh looked quite confident to deny the Mumbai City attack. Mumbai City FC completed their league matches as the with 46 points from twenty points. East Bengal will face their arch rival ATK Mohun Bagan on 25th of February at the Kolkata Derby.
FIRST HALF: Mumbai City FC played an attacking brand of football and created plenty of opportunities. East Bengal FC defense was on its toes and Kamaljit Singh was tested time and again. Mumbai City created pressure in East Bengal's central defense could have scored in a number of occasions.
The home team was bit unlucky as they missed some easy chances to score and once Rowlin Borges shot hit the post just before the half time. MCFC were the better team in the first half, by a mile, but East Bengal FC also had some good chances to take the initial lead. The visiting team had to resort to defending after Mumbai City FC continuously bombarded the attacking third.

Bengaluru FC marked the 100th Hero Indian Super League (ISL) game of the season by achieving the seemingly impossible, beating Mumbai City FC 2-1 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday to put an end their 18-game unbeaten streak. In ending that prolific streak, the best ever in ISL history, the Blues also made a big move towards sealing a playoff spot with their seventh win in a row with Sunil Chhetri leading from the front.
Chhetri made his first start of the new year for Bengaluru FC as Roy Krishna served his suspension. The 38-year-old asked questions of the Islanders’ backline. A little over five minutes after attempting to dink one over the keeper, Chhetri tried his luck from the edge of the box after Vignesh D’s clearance deflected into his path. Moments later, Chhetri had another crack at goal after getting the better of Ahmed Jahouh. Lachenpa was quick to go down and put his body behind the low shot.
But in a first half where neither team looked to be too adventurous, it was Mumbai City FC who were presented with the best opportunity to take the lead. Bengaluru FC’s defenders were caught in a tangle in the middle of the pitch when a long ball set Bipin Singh on a free run at goal down the left side. However, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made himself big at the near post and blocked the winger’s effort which was straight at him.
Chhetri’s persistence paid off minutes before the hour mark as the League Shield Winners looked a shadow of themselves in the second half. Hernandez whipped a corner towards the far post, where the Islanders had left Chhetri unmarked - the veteran charged in to head his team into the lead.
A glimpse of just how much the Blues had rattled the Islanders was visible when centre-back Aleksandar Jovanovic, in to replace the suspended Parag Shrivas, burst past a flat-footed defence into the box to create the second goal. He squared the ball into the path of Hernandez, who drove it in first time to put his team 2-0 up in the 70th minute.
This did seem to shake the league leaders up, as they clawed back in the 77th minute when a Rowllin Borges corner was headed back across goal for Mourtada Fall to tap in. But this drive came too little too late from the Islanders, whose domineering run came to a halt at the hands of the league’s most in-form team.

Unstoppable Mumbai City FC clinches Hero ISL League Shield in style with dominant win over FC Goa
Mumbai City FC faced a brief challenge from FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday, but fittingly overcame it with a goal-streak to sum up a remarkable season so far, sealing their second Hero ISL League Shield with a 5-3 win. In the process, Mumbai City FC also broke FC Goa's record of 51 goals in an ISL season with at least four games left in the bank.
FC Goa were determined not to make Mumbai's title charge easy, trying to beat them with their own attacking method. They found success with this approach as early as the 5th minute. A long free kick found its way to Noah Sadaoui, who danced past three defenders and composed himself to put the home team ahead.
But the league leaders weren't quiet for long. In the 18th minute, they were gifted a free kick just outside the box in a central position. Greg Stewart stepped up and hit a powerful left-footed shot to Dheeraj Singh's near post to beat his outstretched right hand.
Both teams continued to push forward and looked shaky in defence, and in a four-minute span before the break, the game exploded into life. In the 40th minute, Diaz was found with a good low delivery from Lallianzuala Chhangte on the right and hooked the ball from the floor to put the Islanders in front.
Their joy was short-lived, as FC Goa caught them out with a long ball again. Sadaoui turned creator, finding Brandon Fernandes' run with a lob over the defence to put him one-on-one with Phurba Lachenpa. Fernandes made no mistake with his first touch and the hosts were level again. But Stewart was on hand again to put Mumbai City FC in front with his second free-kick of the game, this one a more gentle curling effort that bounced off the post into the goal.
In the second half, Mumbai City FC tightened up to nullify FC Goa, forcing the home side to take risks going forward, which helped Chhangte in particular to come into the game. In the 71st minute, the winger found space for a cross which was handled in the box by Anwar Ali. He stepped up to take it himself to get to double-figures in the season and put the game beyond FC Goa.
By the 77th minute, the Islanders had both Chhangte and Stewart off the pitch, but the substitutes ran circles around FC Goa anyway. From a corner, Mourtada Fall headed the ball into Vikram Pratap Singh's path in front of the goal, and he flicked it in to make it 5-2. Against the run of play, Brison Fernandes found the back of the net from Alvaro Vazquez's pull back, but the show would stop with that eighth goal.

Mumbai City FC and Hyderabad FC played out a hard fought 1-1 draw at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday, a result that is in favour of the current table-toppers. Hyderabad FC came into the game with nothing less than a win that would help their cause in the League Shield Winners race, but were kept in check by the Islanders throughout the game.
Having had a two-week break before this fixture, Hyderabad FC looked like they had deviced a higher press than usual and had the Islanders pinned to their own penalty area at the start.
But in the 20th minute, Lallianzuala Chhangte got involved down the right flank, combining with Lalengmawia Ralte to break into Hyderabad FC's box. That move ended with Chhangte getting his shot over the bar, but it signalled a change in momentum that would eventually hurt Hyderabad FC.
In the very next minute, Chhangte was in action on the right once again. This time, he held the ball under pressure and chipped it across the face of the goal for Bipin Singh, whose header on target was kept out by Nikhil Poojary's hand. Jorge Pereyra Diaz stepped up to take the resultant penalty and drilled it into the roof of the net to move into double-figures for the season and to put Mumbai City FC in front. The home side proceeded to take control of the ball from there on, with Hyderabad FC reverting to a less intense press as they struggled to find chances to break into the final third.
In the second half, it was initially Mumbai City FC who created chances that Hyderabad FC were able to stop. But the visitors found their first big opening in the 66th minute to find the equaliser. Against the run of play, holding midfielder Hitesh Sharma saw a space to run into between the defenders on the left side. Mohammad Yasir played him in from the wing, and the midfielder kept his cool to lift the ball into a narrow opening at the near post.

Mumbai City FC extended their unbeaten streak in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) to a record-breaking 16 games after an extraordinary comeback victory over Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Friday. Boris Singh had put the hosts in front in the 63rd minute before Lallianzuala Chhangte and Vikram Singh turned the game on its head in the final ten minutes to seal a 2-1 victory for the visitors. The win extended the Islanders' lead at the top of the table to seven points.
At the midway point of the first half, Jamshedpur FC had seven attempts compared to Mumbai City FC’s two. However, only one out of all efforts was on target, and that came in the 15th minute when Ritwik Das took on Stalin and made his way inwards before forcing a save out of Phurba Lachenpa at the near post.
In the 42nd minute, Daniel Chuwku headed the ball into the back of the net from a corner, but the referee blew his whistle for a foul in the crowded penalty area as the deadlock remained intact at the break with Mumbai City FC failing to get a single shot on target in the first half for only the second time this season.
Around the hour-mark, a series of Jamshedpur FC attacks wreaked havoc in the Mumbai City FC penalty area. Ritwik’s effort was cleared off the line by Ahmed Jahouh, but eventually, the hard work paid off for the Red Miners as Boris broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute. Ritwik played a sublime through pass to the winger, who beat Mehtab in the box before beating Lachenpa from a tight angle at the near post as the hosts took a well-deserved lead.
Ten minutes from time, parity was restored via Chhangte. Bipin Singh whipped in a low cross from the left flank straight into the path of Chhangte, who slotted it in from close range. The comeback was complete in the 86th minute when Vikram Singh’s cross from the right flank flew over Rehnesh’s outstretched arm and into the goal, giving the Islanders their 11th consecutive win in the Hero ISL, and also taking them past the league stage record of 46 goals previously held by FC Goa.

Mumbai City FC went seven points clear at the top of the table after a comfortable 4-0 victory over NorthEast United FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai. Ahmed Jahouh, Jorge Diaz, and Vinit Rai were on target for the Islanders. The third goal of the match was classified as an Alex Saji own goal.
The result was another example of their dominance this season - in all, Mumbai City FC have now scored 45 goals in 15 games, putting them just a goal behind FC Goa’s league stage record of 46 goals in 2019-20 with five games to go.
Des Buckingham made four changes to his side that saw Mourtada Fall, Lalengmawia Ralte, Rai and Diaz return to the starting XI to replace Rostyn Griffiths, Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, Rowllin Borges and Alberto Noguera. Vincenzo Annese made two changes that saw Romain Philippoteaux and Rochharzela replace Jon Gaztanaga and Emil Benny.
Annese tweaked his tactics specifically for Mumbai City FC, but the gamble did not pay off as the visitors found themselves three goals down inside the opening 15 minutes of the game. A deflected Ahmed Jahouh free-kick handed the hosts an early lead five minutes into the game.
Immediately after the goal, the Highlanders hovered near the Mumbai City FC box but failed to penetrate the staunch defence. Six minutes after the opener, the Islanders doubled their lead after Lallianzuala Chhangte’s tricky run was thwarted by the defence only to put the loose ball into the path of Diaz, who scored his ninth goal of the season.
After scoring the second, Diaz was involved in a smooth one-touch-pass move that ended with Greg Stewart’s shot deflected into the goal by Saji. For the second time in three weeks, Mumbai City FC had dismantled their opponents inside the opening quarter of the game.
At half-time, Rai was allowed too much space by the NorthEast United defence about 25 yards away from goal. The full-back tried his luck from range and his scorching effort flew into the top left corner of goal. The Highlanders were reduced to ten men after Wilmar Gil’s swinging arm impeded on Diaz near the halfway line straight after kick-off.
In the second half, Mumbai City FC lowered the tempo and took complete control of the game. However, the Islanders were still hovering near the NorthEast United FC box, constantly looking for openings in the defence. Three minutes from time, Diaz had the opportunity to add another goal to his tally from the penalty spot. However, the Argentine’s penalty was saved by Mirshad Michu.

ATK MOHUN BAGAN 0-1 MUMBAI CITY FC
SECOND HALF: Mumbai city FC registered an important win against the Mariners at Kolkata and climb up to the pole position of the League table with 33 points.
If the first session was dominated by Mumbai City then the second session of the match is for the Mariners. ATK Mohun Bgan had a number of openings created pressure in Mumbai City's defense but failed to wipe of the one goal difference.
Lachenpa, the goalkeeper of Mumbai City, who had an easy first half had to save some powerful shots from Hugo Boumous and Liston Colaco. In fact Mumbai City defenders Rahul Bheke, Mehtab Singh and Motarda Fall had a busy and torrid time in front of the continous attacks of the Mariners.
FIRST HALF: Mumbai City FC are leading against ATK Mohun Bagan by a solitary goal at the end of first 45 minutes of play. The only goal of the match so far was scored by Lalrinzualla Chhangte from the top of the eighteen yards of a pass from Borges.
It was a brillant performance ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith to restrict the vistors to increase the lead. Kaith saved a number of opportunities denied Bipin, Chhangte and Stewart in a number of occasions. The central defense of the home team looked as mere spectator in front of the speedy attack of Mumbai City FC.
'
It was a competitive match in the first session.ATK Mohun Bagan had some moves deep inside the Mumbai City half but failed to create any impact.

MCFC steamroll KBFC and emerge victorious 4-0 tonight. The hosts, MCFC came out with a clear game plan and started the game in top gear. It took them no time to open the scoring as Jorge Diaz found the back of the net with his finish.
A few minutes later, Greg Stewart scored his first goal of the night to make it 2-0 for MCFC. It was a matter of time before Bipin Singh got on the scoresheet and eventually, he did in the 16th minute of the game. MCFC heaped more misery on KBFC as Jorge Diaz scored his second and MCFC’s fourth goal. With four goals to the good at the break, MCFC looked to poised to put the game beyond KBFC’s reach.
MCFC could not add to their tally in the second half but the damage was already done in the first half. KBFC did manage to keep a clean sheet in the second half but goals were the need of the hour for the visitors and they failed to score even a single goal. The hosts, MCFC put on a clinical show and collect all three points from tonight's fixture. On the other hand, KBFC would be hoping to put this game behind them and start afresh in their next fixture against FC Goa.

It was a bit of a cagey affair in the first half, and it came to life only at the fag end when MCFC created a couple of close chances but without the end product. The second half started well as both teams looked a bit more organized.
The tempo of the game was certainly better and soon, the brilliant combination of Lallianzuala Chhangte and Jorge Diaz set up the first goal of the match. Odisha FC were determined though and were not ready to take it lying down. Minutes after the first goal, Diego Mauricio showed his brilliance and joined forces with Victor Rodriguez to earn the equalizer.
It was a productive period of play as Mumbai City FC regained the lead through Bipin Singh and then the floodgates opened. The visitors got one more as Lallianzuala Chhangte scored his second goal of the evening before playing a part in the fourth goal for MCFC.
Odisha FC did pull one back through Mauricio in the added time but it was too late for them. After putting up stern resistance, the home team lost the plot and suffered their fifth loss of the season - first at home.

Mumbai City FC registered their second comeback win over Chennaiyin FC this season in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai on Saturday. Petar Sliskovic broke the deadlock in the 34th minute before Lallianzuala Chhangte equalised four minutes later. Greg Stewart scored in the 57th minute, to make it 2-1 as the Islanders returned to the top of the table.
The hosts fielded an unchanged XI, while the visitors made one change in goal as Debjit Majumder was replaced by Samik Mitra. Abdenasser El Khayati was the major absentee for Chennaiyin FC, missing the game due to an injury.
Four minutes past the hour-mark, Mourtada Fall was caught on the ball before giving it straight to Julius Duker. The midfielder instantly played it through to Sliskovic, who calmly slotted the ball past Phurba Lachenpa as the Marina Machans broke the deadlock against the Islanders for the second time this season.
Fall redeemed himself for the error that led to the goal just four minutes later as he headed Ahmed Jahouh’s freekick, from near the halfway line, back across the face of goal on the edge of the box, where Chhangte was lurking. The winger cushioned the ball with his left foot before firing a volley past Mitra with his right.
The comeback was complete in the second half when Bipin Singh whipped a low cross in from the left before Jorge Diaz’s back-heel flick caught the Chennaiyin FC defence wrong-footed. The ball went straight into the path of a charging Stewart, who smashed it in from close range.
In the 80th minute, Mitra was at full stretch to deny Stewart a brace from a free-kick near the edge of the box. Chennaiyin FC knocked on the door on multiple occasions but were unable to create anything substantial.

Mumbai City FC unleashed a barrage of goals on the opposition yet again as they beat FC Goa 4-1 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday. Pereyra Diaz’s brace took him to the top of the league’s goalscorers chart this season, while Lallianzuala Chhangte and Alberto Noguera also got on the scoresheet. Iker Guarrotxena was the lone scorer for the Gaurs where Edu Bedia went on to be shown a second yellow card in the 79th minute.
For the eighth time in nine games, Mumbai City FC scored the first goal of the game. Brandon Fernandes was caught napping on the ball as Rahul Bheke’s challenge put it into Greg Stewart’s path. The Scot saw the run of Diaz and played a perfectly weighted pass through to the striker, who tucked it in at the far post in the 16th minute. Six minutes later, Phurba Lachenpa’s fumble from a 25-yard Guarrotxena shot allowed FC Goa to draw level.
The Islanders retook the lead three minutes before the break. Left-back Aibanbha Dohling failed to intercept Ralte’s ball to Chhangte on the right. The winger drew a few defenders in before dribbling past them and curling the ball into the net with his left foot.
After scoring three minutes before the break, Diaz ensured Mumbai City FC scored three minutes after the break as well. Chhangte turned provider for this one as he squared it for Diaz inside the box. The Argentine striker adjusted his footing and picked his spot to bag his sixth goal of the season.
FC Goa were stuck on the back foot and didn’t recover. A quickly taken corner seven minutes later was cleared only as far as Noguera on the edge of the box. The Spaniard pulled the trigger from range and buried a curler past Dheeraj Singh. The evening did not end well for his compatriot on the other team, as Bedia received a second yellow for kicking the ball away, and the Gaurs finished with ten men.

Mumbai City FC went to the top of the table after a comfortable 3-1 win over NorthEast United FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. Ahmed Jahouh, Bipin Singh, and Jorge Diaz got their names on the scoresheet for the Islanders, while Parthib Gogoi scored his first goal for NorthEast United FC. New signing Wilmar Jordan came on to make his debut for the Highlanders in the 57th minute but they were already 3-1 down and the striker couldn’t assert his presence in the game.
The hosts switched their formation to a 4-3-3 and made just one change as Rochharzela came in to replace Emil Benny. The visitors also made one change that saw Lalengmawia Ralte drop to the bench as Vinit Rai took his spot in the midfield.
A penalty was awarded to Mumbai City FC in the 10th minute after Greg Stewart was clipped by Rochharzela just outside the box. The referee pointed to the spot, and Jahouh smashed it in to put the Islanders in front.
The lead did not last for a long time as a sloppy pass from Mehtab Singh went straight to Romain Philippoteaux. The Frenchman instantly put Gogoi through on goal before the youngster kept his composure and put away the leveller with aplomb in the 17th minute.
In the 28th minute, the Islanders were back in front. Stewart was the architect again as he whipped in a ball into the box from the right flank. The ball found its way to Bipin, who headed it in at the far post to restore Mumbai City FC’s advantage.
Thirty seconds into the second half, a two-goal cushion was established. Bipin went down the left side and got his shot away. The effort was parried by Mirshad Michu, but Diaz was in the right place at the right time to score for the Islanders.
In the final quarter of the game, a plethora of opportunities fell to Mumbai City FC, but they could not add another goal to their tally. The Islanders attempted a total of 22 shots in the game, out of which 13 were on target.

Two goals in two halves helped Mumbai City FC ease past Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai, today. Jorge Diaz and Lalengmawia Ralte scored in the first half, while Bipin Singh and Lallianzuala Chhangte sealed a comfortable 4-0 win for the Islanders in the second half.
Mumbai City head coach Des Buckingham made one change to his starting eleven as Mandar Dessai was replaced at left-back by Vignesh D. BFC head coach Simon Grayson switched from a 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1 as Alan Costa replaced Aleksandar Jovanovic in defence. Skipper Sunil Chhetri dropped to the bench as Danish Farooq started on the left flank.
Diaz struck in the 14th minute to put the hosts in front, as he pinched the ball from Alan Costa who was caught napping in defence. The Argentinian striker took the ball off Costa’s feet, advanced towards the goal and slotted it past a rooted Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
The Islanders doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute. Greg Stewart’s low cross from the right went past Bipin Singh and found an unmarked Ralte. The midfielder was given plenty of time and room in the box as he took a couple of touches before smashing it into the net.
In the 58th minute, Rahul Bheke’s long ball from defence caught the Bengaluru FC backline off-guard. Diaz skipped the offside trap and found himself in a one-on-one situation with the keeper. The striker unselfishly squared the ball to Bipin, who tapped it into an empty net to make it three for the Islanders.
The hosts then fired in their fourth of the evening in the 74th minute. Diaz’s pass was deflected by Sandesh Jhingan and found its way into Chhangte’s path. The winger wrapped his boot around it and placed it perfectly into the top left corner of the goal to wrap it all up.

It rained goals at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai as Mumbai City FC came from behind to beat Chennaiyin FC 6-2 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). Mumbai City FC found six different goalscorers, three of them coming off the bench, after falling 2-0 behind just past the half-an-hour mark.
The Marina Arena erupted in the 19th minute when Petar Sliskovic put the hosts in front. Sangwan’s delivery from the corner came off Rahul Bheke before reaching Rahim Ali. The striker lobbed the ball across the face of goal and Sliskovic headed it in from close range as the Islanders conceded the first goal of the match for the first time this season.
In the 32nd minute, the Marina Machans doubled their lead. Sliskovic ran at Mehtab Singh before rolling it towards El Khayati. The Dutchman’s first shot was blocked by Mehtab, but the rebound was slotted in perfectly at the near post.
In the next minute Mumbai’s deficit was down to one. The Islanders swarmed forward as Stewart whipped the ball in from the right flank. Diaz beat his marker and headed the ball past Debjit Majumder to make it 2-1.
In first-half stoppage time, Lalengmawia Ralte beat Debjit to the ball and was taken out in the process. The referee pointed to the spot and booked the keeper. Stewart stepped up to take it and sent Debjit the wrong way to reinstate parity in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
At half-time, Des Buckingham made two changes with Vinit Rai and Vignesh Dakshinamurthy coming on for Ralte and Dessai. The game turned on its head four minutes into the second half. Bipin pulled the ball back towards the edge of the box and Rai smashed it in with his first attempt at goal.
The visitors struck again at the hour-mark and established a two-goal cushion. Ahmed Jahouh’s corner was cleared only as far as Dakshinamurthy at the edge of the box. The defender put his boot through it and found the back of the net.
The Islanders’ third substitution of the evening, Alberto Noguera, also got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute. The Spaniard received the ball from Bipin and a powerful shot picked up a deflection off Diagne to sneak in at the far post. Bipin was in the action again at the very end, skipping past the defence and tucked the ball into the net to become Mumbai City FC’s leading goalscorer with 16 goals.

Mumbai City FC kept their unbeaten streak alive after a splendid 2-0 victory over Kerala Blasters FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi today. First-half goals from Mehtab Singh and Jorge Diaz were enough to secure all three points for the Islanders. Kerala Blasters lost their third consecutive game after winning the ISL opener earlier this month.
The Islanders retained their record of scoring the first goal of the game in the Hero ISL as they took the lead after 21 minutes. The hosts failed to clear a corner as the ball bounced off a couple of Blasters’ players before coming to Mehtab Singh. The defender put his boot through the ball and smashed it into the back of the net.
Ten minutes later, poor defending from Marko Leskovic allowed Diaz to go one-on-one with the keeper. The Argentine kept his composure before scoring against his former club as the visitors doubled their advantage. The goal came a minute after Mongil had denied Lallianzuala Chhangte with a brilliant last-ditch tackle.
Kerala Blasters kicked it up a notch in the second half. The hosts managed to push the Islanders inside their own half as the Mumbai City defence faced a barrage of Blasters attacks. Dimitrios Diamantakos’ low shot was palmed away by the keeper before Jeakson Singh’s header from the resulting corner was inches wide in the 57th minute.
The win keeps the Islanders’ unbeaten streak intact as they go second on the table with two wins and two draws after four games in the Hero ISL. They are one point behind leaders Odisha FC.

Mumbai City FC dominated possession but were held to a 1-1 draw by Jamshedpur FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai. Lallianzuala Chhangte put the hosts in front after eight minutes before Daniel Chukwu leveled the score four minutes later. Jamshedpur’s star player from last season, Greg Stewart, was threatening in attack and made the assist for Mumbai’s goal, but was neutralized by his former club for the rest of the game.
Eight minutes into the game, the deadlock was broken. Stewart played in a low ball across the face of goal as Chhangte darted towards it to bury it. Four minutes later, parity was restored. Priori’s long throw from the right was flicked on by Sawyer before Chukwu rose highest to head the ball into the top-right corner.
Approaching the half-hour mark, the Islanders were dominating possession. Complacency in midfield allowed Priori to knick the ball off Stewart and feed it through to Boris Singh. Boris’ effort lacked power and was collected comfortably by the keeper. Moments later, Boris failed to control Chukwu’s cross from the left as the Red Miners squandered another chance.
The hosts piled the pressure on Jamshedpur FC as the game touched the hour mark. The Red Miners’ defence was able to keep their shape and kept the Mumbai City FC attackers at bay. In the 63rd minute, substitute Vikram Singh’s looping effort bounced off the bar. Minutes later, TP Rehenesh was quick to deny Stewart’s effort from a freekick.
In the final quarter of the game, Mumbai City FC did not take their foot off the pedal and continued to press Jamshedpur FC into their own half. The visitors dealt with the pressure well and relied on rare counters to move forward. Opportunities fell to both sides in the dying moments of the game, but neither side capitalised on them as the game ended in a stalemate.

Mumbai City FC notched a 2-0 win over Odisha FC in a tightly contested affair in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai. A Shubam Sarangi own goal and a 94th-minute Bipin Singh strike were enough to secure all three points for the Islanders.
The first shot on target came seven minutes from half-time when Nandhakumar Sekar cut in from the left flank and fired a tame effort towards the goal. It was comfortably collected by the keeper. In the 44th minute, Diego Mauricio burst into life as he sprinted past two Mumbai City players before getting a shot away. The Brazilian’s effort was off target.
Five minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken as the Islanders took the lead courtesy of an own goal. Lallianzuala Chhangte was found on the right flank by Ahmed Jahouh. Chhangte unleashed a shot on target after a quick exchange with Greg Stewart. Amrinder Singh saved the effort with his foot but the ball hit defender Shubham Sarangi and rolled into the goal.
Nearing the hour-mark, Mauricio found space in the Islander’s box to get a shot away. The fierce strike was saved by Lachenpa. In the 72nd minute, Mauricio went down in the box, under pressure from Stewart. Appeals for a penalty were in vain as the referee only awarded a goal kick.
In the 82nd minute, Amrinder denied Stewart with an outstanding save. The Scottish striker received the ball from the left flank and struck a low shot at goal. Amrinder’s quick reflexes were enough to keep the ball out. In the last action of the game, Mumbai City FC probed forward towards a scattered Odisha defence. Stewart unselfishly passed the ball to Bipin who smashed the ball past Amrinder to score his 15th league goal for the club with the last kick of the game.
The Islanders, next play hosts to the Hero ISL 2021-22 Shield winners Jamshedpur FC on 22nd October, Saturday. The Juggernauts return to the east coast to host Kerala Blasters on 23rd October, Sunday.

Defending champions Hyderbad FC and Mumbai City FC took a point each as both sides kicked their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) campaign off with an enthralling 3-3 draw at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune.
In the 23rd minute, Mumbai City FC drew first blood on the counter. Bipin blitzed down the left flank before whipping a low ball into the box that was deflected into the back of his own net by Chinglensana. Hyderabad FC pulled level in the last minute of first-half stoppage time after Lalengmawia Ralte brought Bartholomew Ogbeche down inside the box and conceded a penalty. Joao Victor sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to restore parity.
Five minutes into the second half, the game turned on its head as Chianese took advantage of a midfield mixup and played the ball through to Mohammed Yasir. The 24-year-old winger played an inch-perfect pass to Halicharan Narzary who made no mistake in slotting the ball past the keeper. Less than five minutes later, Bipin’s effort was brilliantly saved by Laxmikant Kattimani, denying The Islanders an equaliser.
Seven minutes past the hour mark, it was all square again. Substitute Ahmed Jahouh played a sublime pass through to Greg Stewart. The Scottish striker put the ball past Kattimani with ease to bag his debut goal for The Islanders. Less than ten minutes later, The Nizams took the lead again. Substitute Borja Herrera whipped a corner in towards the far post as Odei Onaindia headed the ball back across the goal before Victor nodded it in from close range.
In the 85th minute, parity was restored yet again. Bipin pulled the ball back towards Stewart. The striker played it through to substitute Alberto Noguera who side-footed the ball into the net from close range. Both sides looked for a winner in the closing stages of the match but ultimately settled for a point.
Hyderabad will travel to Guwahati for their next game against NorthEast United on Thursday, October 13th. The Islanders will make a short trip back to Mumbai to host Odisha FC on Saturday, October 15th.
