PREVIEW: The arch rivals of Indian football, East Bengal FC and ATK Mohun Bagan will going to clash in the second Kolkata Derby at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in the Hero Indian Super League on Saturday.

East Bengal FC had lost all the five ISL Derbies against their arch rivals had an opportunity to regain their supremacy. East Bengal FC are at the 10th position of the League table with 19 points from 19 matches. ATK Mohun Bagan already qualified for the knockout stages will have a chance to confirm a top-four finish with a win. The Mariners are currently placed at the forth position with 31 points from 19 matches.

SECOND HALF: East Bengal FC sealed an important win against Mumbai City FC, the winners of Hero ISL Winners Shield 2022-23, at an away encounter at Mumbai Football Arena. The all important goal of the match was scored Naorem Mahesh Singh at the 52nd of the match.

It was the combination between Cleiton Silva and Naorem Mahesh which works finally. East Bengal could have increased the lead but wasted easy opportunities in a number of occasions.It was V.P.Suhair who was the culpit for not converting the easy chances at least thrice during the second session with Phurba Lachenpa, the goalkeeper of Mumbai City was at his mercy.

Mumbai City on the contray created some positive chances later in the second session but the defense of East Bengal and especially goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh looked quite confident to deny the Mumbai City attack. Mumbai City FC completed their league matches as the with 46 points from twenty points. East Bengal will face their arch rival ATK Mohun Bagan on 25th of February at the Kolkata Derby.



FIRST HALF: Mumbai City FC played an attacking brand of football and created plenty of opportunities. East Bengal FC defense was on its toes and Kamaljit Singh was tested time and again. Mumbai City created pressure in East Bengal's central defense could have scored in a number of occasions.

The home team was bit unlucky as they missed some easy chances to score and once Rowlin Borges shot hit the post just before the half time. MCFC were the better team in the first half, by a mile, but East Bengal FC also had some good chances to take the initial lead. The visiting team had to resort to defending after Mumbai City FC continuously bombarded the attacking third.

SECOND HALF: Two important goals scored in the second session finally sealed the fate in favour of Chennaiyin FC against East Bengal FC at home. Chennaiyin FC got the lead just after the start of the second session when the ball defected of Lalchulnunga of a cross from Aniruddh Thapa went inside the goal.



Rahim Ali increaed the lead for Chennaiyin FC utilising a forward pass from Edwin Vanspal at the 86th minute of the match. East Bengal FC's central defense looked unsettled in front of the speedy attack of Chennaiyin FC right from the start of the second session. The home team wasted an easy opportunity when Karikari's header of a cross from Vincy Bareto cleared from the goal line by Charis Kyriakou.

East Bengal FC on the contrary looked unimpressive in the second session, hardly create any impact in the home team's defense.

FIRST HALF: It was a dominated performance by Chennaiyin FC in the first half an hour of the match. The home team played a number of passes inside the East Bengal FC half created a number of openings to score spearheaded by Vincy Bareto, Kwame Karikari and Aniruddh Thapa. Chennaiyin FC could have opened their score sheet at the second minute of the match when Fallou Diagene's push of a corner hit the bar. But the easiest chance for the home team wasted by Vincy Bareto at the 17th minute of the match. Vincy got the better from Jerry got past Kamaljit but failed to place the ball in open goal.

East Bengal came back in the match strongly at the later stages of the first session created chances to score. V.P.Suhair missed an easy opportunity to score of a pass from Mahesh Singh with only Saumik Mitra, the Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper in front of him. Jake Jarvis was unlucky as his shot of a lob from Mahesh Singh missed the target by a whisker.

SECOND HALF : East Bengal and North East United shared points in a ISL group League match at Kolkata. The match did not rise to any great height with a number of miss passes in the midfield. Both the teams created chances had the opportunity to score.

East Bengal increased the lead to 3-2 when Cleiton Silva increased the lead converting a penalty. Cleiton was pushed from behind by Alex Saji inside the danger zone. Imran Khan, the substitute footballer of the visitors equalised at the flag end of the match.



The chances of qualifying within the first six teams for East Bengal are over now.

FIRST HALF : At the end of first forty five minutes of play scores are locked at 2-2. Down by a nineth minute goal by Cleiton Silva, North East United came back in the match midway in the first half scoring two goals in quick succession. North East had a couple of easy chances within first five minutes of the match.

Richard Kule wasted an easy chance of a pass from Parthib from within a yard from the goal. North East equalised at the twenty nineth minute when Parthib Gagoi scored from top of the 18 yards of a powerful shot. North East United increased the lead to 2-1 within a very short time. A forward pass from Joseba Beitia finds Jithin M.S.on the way. Jithin places the ball to the left of Kamaljit with a grounder.

East Bengal had an early goal at the nineth minute when Cleiton Silva scored with a perfect header of a cross from Jerry from the left. Cleiton has now scored eleven goals as Peraya Diaz of Mumbai City FC with ten goals just behind him. Jake Jervis equalised and scored his first goal for East Bengal with a brillant acrobatic volley from inside the 18 yards.

SECOND HALF East Bengal FC registered an important win against Kerala Blasters FC at home. The combination of Mahesh Singh and Cleiton Silva worked as the Brazilian on his birthday at the 75th minute of the match helped the Red and Gold to complete their fifth win in the competition.

Kerala Blasters lead by Dimitrios, Sahal Samad and Adrian Luna created pressure in EBFC defense in the later stages to wipe of the deficit. But it was Sarthak Dolui, Md Rakip, Charis Kyriakou and goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh did a splendid job to restrict Kerala Blasters to take any advantage of the situation.

FIRST HALF The first half ended goalless as both sides had their moments but neither team was able to take full advantage and take the lead. Kerala Blasters FC, the away team started the game on the front foot and threatened the East Bengal FC goal but failed to trouble their goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh.

The combination of Bryce Miranda and Adrian Luna created tremendous pressure in the East Bengal FC's central defense and finally Ankit Mukherjee had to replaced by Rakip to strengthen the defense. The match was quite competitive in the first session. East Bengal FC had some positive at the closing stages of the half when Cleiton Silva was denied brilliantly from close range twice by Karanjit Singh and Suhair Vadakkepeedika missed the final chance of the half as his header was inches wide of the left post.

SECOND HALF: FC Goa registered an important win against East Bengal FC at home and confirmed their position within the top six teams in the league. FC Goa increased the lead just after the half time to 4-0 while East Bengal FC equalised twice at the later stages of the second half.



Brandon Fernandez increased the lead to 4-0 when his curling free kick from age of the 18 yards beat Kamaljit.FC Goa could have increased the lead in a number of occasions, twice the goal post denied them to score.

East Bengal FC equalised twice when Suhair scored of a cross from Mahesh Singh from the left and Sarthak Golui scored of a corner from Mahesh from the right. FC Goa are now with 23 points are placed at the 5th position, while East Bengal FC are still at the 9th position with 12 points.

FIRST HALF: At the end of first half FC Goa are dominating the match and leading by a margin of 3-0 against East Bengal at Fatorda.Iker Guarrotxena scores the first half hat-trick in the Hero ISL. This is probably the quickest hat-trick in the history of Indian Super League.



Iker scored his first goal at the 9th minute of the match urilising a error in East Bengal defense. A pass from from the right by Devandra was artially saved by Lalchununga and Noah Wail passes it to Iker to did the rest. Iker scored his second goal at the 21st minute when his header of a cross from Noah Wail went inside the goal. Iker competed his hat-trik a minute later when his lob of a pass from Samson hit the post and finds the target.

It was really a miserable performance by the central defenders of East Bengal as they failed to react in front of the well combined moves of FC Goa and had no answer to respond. East Bengal FC had a couple of chances in the first session which was wasted by Sumeet Passi and Mobashir Rahaman.

SECOND HALF: A goal in the added minutes finally register an important win by a brace against East Bengal at Kolkata. It was a competitive second half as both the teams had a number of chances to score.



Hyderabad FC increased their lead at the dying stages of the match when Aaren scored of a pass from Bartholomew Ogbeche. Cleiton Silva had some easy chances to score but a good goalkeeping by Gurmeet Singh saved Hyderabad FC.

The defending champions Hyderabad FC are in the second position in the league table with thirty five points, while East Bengal FC are in the ninth position as their chance to qualify among the first six teams are quite impossible now.

FIRST HALF: Hyderabad FC are leading by a goal against East Bengal FC at half time. FINAL SCORE: EAST BENGAL FC 1-2 JAMSHEDPUR FC
SECOND HALF : A winning goal by Ritwik Das in the 84th minute sealed the faith of the match in favour of Jamshedpur FC. The visitors came back in the match strongly in the second session equalised at the 60th minute of the match. Harry Sawyer who came in place of Daniel Cheema scored, after a ball defected of Lalchungnunga. Jamshedpur FC could have scored more but a goal line save by Jerry and a brand of good goalkeeping by Suvam Sen restricted them to score.
Cleiton Silva was a bit unlucky when his push was saved from the goal line by Ricky even after the Brazilan got the past Vishal reacting to a pass from Lima. East Bengal FC failed to capitalise the situation after an early lead in the match

FIRST HALF: East Bengal FC are leading by a goal at the end of the first 45 minutes of play. A powerful shot by Mahesh Singh from the left defected of Vishal Jadhav, the Jamshedpur goalkeeper. Cleiton Silva who was playing his 50th match in Indian Super League utilise the situation and scored his ninth goal of the competition at the 12th minute of the match.



Apart from the early goal scored by the home team, Jamshedpur FC created pressure in the deep defense of East Bengal lead by Daniel Cheema and Ritwik Das but the central defenders of Red and Gold looked quite confident in the first session. The best chance of the match was wasted by Borris Singh who shoots wide of a pass from Ritwik with only Suvam Sen to beat.

An interesting second session coming up as both the teams require points in order to consolidate their position in the League table.

Diego Mauricio continued his fine form, bagging his second brace for Odisha FC in as many games as they put an end to their four-game winless streak to move into fifth place on the Hero ISL table on Saturday. Odisha FC fell behind early in the first half at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, but gave their home support much to cheer about as they outscored East Bengal FC for the remainder of the game.

Cleiton Silva, who is now the leading goalscorer of the season, put East Bengal FC in front in the 10th minute after capitalising on Odisha FC goalkeeper Amrinder Singh's mistake. Alex Lima played a lofted pass over the defence on the right side, and Amrinder rushed out indecisively to find himself stranded. Silva showed no hesitation in chipping the ball from a tight angle and put the visitors in front.

Odisha FC nearly levelled the score minutes later, when Thoiba Singh picked up the ball from Mauricio as he drove into the box, and found Jerry Mawihmingthanga unmarked at the far post. The forward couldn't keep his balance as he pushed the ball wide of the far post of an open goal.

But the hosts didn't have to wait for too long after that, with Raynier Fernandes whipping a cross into the six-yard box from a corner and finding no resistance from the East Bengal FC. He found Mauricio a few yards in front of the goalkeeper, and the striker stuck his right foot out to score.



On either side of the half-time whistle, Odisha FC then found the goals to put the fixture to bed. The first of those was a fortuitous one for Nandhakumar Sekar, who was looking to cross the ball in from the left and ended up slicing it with his left foot. The ball kept going in its original path and eventually cleared East Bengal FC goalkeeper Suvam Sen to land in the back of the net.

Not long after the second half began, Mauricio picked up a second goal. Fernandes was the provider for him once again, pushing forward from the right side of central midfield before slipping it into the channel for Mauricio on the right side of the box. The striker picked up the ball, kept his composure with the lack of a press from the defence, and managed to dink the ball into the near post past Sen's left shoulder.

East Bengal FC produced a host of chances from there on, trying to throw players forward in numbers, and came close on a few occasions but never with any conviction. In the 85th minute, Ankit Mukherjee managed to put the ball past Amrinder's near post after a scramble in the box, but the effort was flagged offside. 2nd HALF MATCH ( ISL RELEASE) : HFC have grabbed all three points here. They were more clinical than the away team, and that made the difference. The first half was quite even in terms of chances created, but a stunning volley from Mohammad Yasir gave Hyderabad FC the lead.

East Bengal FC also had a great opportunity, but Gurmeet Singh made a good one-on-one save right at the end of the first half. After the resumption, HFC took control of the midfield and more often than not broke into the opposition box, but they were denied by Kamaljit Singh, who made an excellent double save. However, they could not keep them away for longer, as soon after that, Javier Siverio made it 2-0 and took the game in their favour.

EBFC came close to getting a consolation, but their quality in the final third let them down. So, it is Hyderabad FC who continue their challenge for the top position and are looking like a good unit. EBFC will hope to improve and come back stronger in their next game.



FIRST HALF MATCH ( ISL RELEASE) : HFC lead by 1-0 goal going into the break. The game started with both teams trying to play some cautious football, but Hyderabad FC were winning the midfield battle.

However, the first chance came through EBFC, which they did not take. They did create some more openings, but did not test Gurmeet Singh that much until the very end of the half when Cleiton Silva fluffed his lines. HFC got control of the game midway through and put more pressure on the East Bengal FC defence.

They did alright to keep them away, but a moment of brilliance from Mohammad Yasir gave them the lead. Hyderabad FC threatened with some more chances, but it remains only a one-goal lead. EBFC will be happy with that and come out with more intensity to get back in the game. We can expect an exciting second half. Stay tuned.

East Bengal are a very good team with good players, especially in the attack and are very organised with a very good coach. Every game in this league is not easy, it is very tiring and tough. We come to play our game, with our style at home. With our fans cheering for us, we need to make a big effort to get the first win and open our account for the new season. It will not be easy, but we can do that.

We had one injury concern during the beginning of the season, but now all the players are in good condition. I have the whole squad to work with and I'm happy about that.

I watched them back. I thought North east United were extremely unlucky in the first match. At least not to get a point. They work very, very hard off the ball and it will not be an easy game as there are no easy games in this league. So, we will be disciplined, we will be aggressive and we will try to win the game and come home with all the three points.

If we will play really badly in both games, I would be worried. But we haven't and we have shown some good moments in both games. So, I'm optimistic that we can play better and get and get the right result. You are not going to win all the games that you play, that's for sure. But in both the games we had some very good moments particularly with goal in the second half and I think if we can produce that kind of play, good things are going to happen. As you said, we need to put those performances together and at the moment we haven't done that.

East Bengal fans are everywhere, and we need them to come and support us home or away, and hopefully, they will not have to wait much longer for the first win.

11.10.22: We are in a rebuilding process. We finished last, last year, second to bottom two years ago. We got some moments in the first game. I don't say we are anyway near where we will be at the end of the season but how you start the season is not how you finish it. The players will have a better understanding of what they have to do.

e are together as a team for the last four weeks. I thought for 70 mins against Kerala Blasters FC who are together now for two years, I thought we were okay. Other teams would have surrendered and conceded 4-5 goals. But we didn't because we are not that type of team. We had two players Tuhin Das and Lalchhungnunga play for the first time in Hero ISL.

I know how important the team is for the community. My old friend Subhash Bhowmick would tell me you need to come and coach East Bengal FC one day. It would be good if he was here to see this. It's a massive responsibility, none more than the Indian team.

EAST BENGAL FC ANNOUNCES THE NAMES OF THEIR CAPTAINS
6.10.22: East Bengal FC announces the name of their captains ahead of the first match in the 9th edition of Indian Super League.

In a press release it is stated Goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh, Defender Ivan Gonzalez, Midfielder Souvik Chakraborty, Sumeet Passi and striker Cleiton Silva will lead East Bengal FC in the upcoming tournament.

5.10.22 : East Bengal FC today left for Kochi to play the opening match of the 2022-23 edition of Indian Super League against Kerala Blasters FC on 7th of October.

Kerala Blasters FC were the finalist in the last year, lost against Hyderabad FC in the final. While East Bengal FC finised at the bottom of the league table.
